Fussy staffy - collie cross
Hello everyone
I have a 16 month old staffy - collie cross called hunter who seems to be getting even more fussy with his food as he's getting older.
We've tried feeding him near enough every type of dog food and he just seems to turn his nose up at it, tinned and dry it doesn't make any difference. We've currently got him on the pâté from tesco which he'll eat but then he has days where he won't touch it.
Just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this and what have you done to get around it? He seems to bulk up but then loses all his weight and seems really skinny.
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Hi mate, sounds like you have the same issue as me, my lass eats like a horse but i a skinny as a rake. she just wont put weight on but muscles up well. do you have access to a dehydrator? if not a low oven setting will do. You can make your own pemmican dry out chicken, beef and fish. blend to a powder. go to your local butcher and ask for some beef fat. render it down in a pan and pour it into the dry mix. form until it makes a sticky mess and push into oiled ice cube trays. it will last for years and give good working energy and also an addition to diet helping to put weight on. use scales to work out how much you need to give as they will pile on the pounds quick if they arnt worked with it

He'll eat chicken and other meat without a problem he just refuses to eat his dog food, Iv even tried the tough love route by thinking well he'll eat when he's starving but he just ends up running around crying none stop, I even caught him eating his own poo.
He'll build up muscle quite well with the walks he gets its just he looks skinny when he refuses to eat.

If he'll eat meat, why not put him on a raw diet? Quite a few of us on here feed raw, it's a great diet.

Thanks for that advice I'll look into it and see how he goes, known him though he'll decide not to eat it unless it's cooked properly

We've tried giving him raw meat before and he just throws it about then leaves it. But it's worth another try

Re: Fussy staffy - collie cross
Id try him on a Raw diet as suggested but if he wont eat the meat then maybe try something like Natures Menu ( that's what I give) as its raw food and they do steamed tins and frozen nuggets that might interest him.
Good luck!
Good luck!

i've known dogs that aren't too keen on eating a lump of raw meat, bu will eat a meaty bone - worth a try? just remember tgat with raw feeding you need a ratio of 80% muscle meat (as varied as possible, although start with nust one & bring diff ones in gradually), 10% offal & 10% bone.
if you're unsure, tgere are some good raw feeding pages on facebook.
