Staffy cross??
Hi all, Am new to here so i's like to say a big hello.
Name is Jeff from Liverpool (England) and i have recently became a first time staffy owner, I got Lola from a Animals in need about 4 weeks ago, she is so lovable me and my family fell in love with her as soon as we seen her. She is now 4 months old.The question that i would like to be answered as the shelter couldnt give me a deffinate answer to what she could be crossed with.So i was hoping you all at this forum could shed some light if possible

Re: Staffy cross??
Hi & welcome to the forum - Lola's adorable!
Looking at her colour & what I can see of her shape, I would say maybe Yellow Labrador? Lurcher's a possibility, though.

Re: Staffy cross??
Lab or Lurcher are great possibilities. It's always harder to tell when they're pups, though. You never know how they'll look grown up.

Re: Staffy cross??
I'ld say at this present moment in time shes a Stafford. Shes only 4mths old you say and IMO has just hit the gremlin stage.
Pups change alot as they mature, and her colouring is fawn which is seen in Staffords.
My male for example looked a mess at 4mths old, he had the worse gremlin stage i have ever seen, but he soon came right.
So sit back and wait, she may surprise you

Was the person that told you this present at the mating of your dogs parents ??

Re: Staffy cross??
No, i've done alot of research, And had a 90% confirmation, Lola has a constant dark ridge running down from neck to tail, the older she's getting the darker its going, this dark strip is constantly there.Ive also met a person the other night while walking lola and the first thing he said was "Is that a Ridgeback". As he used to own 1 himself...She is very play hard with other dogs at the same age as her, but very playfull with older dogs.Ive also did a google serach on Ridgeback x Staffy's and the look and hight of lola is 99% exact of other pics that people have posted up.

Unless the fur is running from back to front, against the normal run of fur, then that means nothing. My EBT has a dark stripe running down his back but that's because he's a red smut. It's just colouring & an awful lot of dogs have a slightly darker line along their backs.
Tbh I can't see any ridgeback in her at all.

Re: Staffy cross??
My cat has a dark stripe running down his back. Doesn't make him a ridgeback. The ridge running down a Ridgeback's back is fur growing in the opposite direction, not darker fur. It looks like this:
To be honest, I don't see any Ridgeback in your pup. They are a very popular breed in my area and I have watched quite a few grow up from puppies coming to our puppy play group to adults coming in for treats and toys. They all had three things in common, they grew big quickly, had big feet as little pups and were a deep rusty red color. Even the two Ridgeback mixes I've met are big and rusty red in color. The AKC standard for the Rhodesian Ridgeback is: Dogs 25-27" (63.5-68.58 cm) in height; Bitches 24-26" (60.96-66 cm) in height. Dogs 85lbs (38.5kg); Bitches 70lbs (31.75kg).

Re: Staffy cross??
The ridge on a ridgeback runs from the shoulders down, and its as Caryll stated. The ridges fur is of the same shade of red as the rest of the dog, its just its running in the opposite direction so giving it the appearance of a darker colour.
Its all guess work as to what went in to make your girl. So unless someone was present at the mating guess work is all that it will remain.
No one can be 50% 90% etc what she is.
Shes a cutie either way

Re: Staffy cross??
she is beautiful, but as already said virtually impossible to tell at this age. the way they grow means they could have a different breed specific look to them from one week to the next. even pedigree pups have stages where you would say "omg is it really???" I know what cross marley is and to this day only one person has identified his parantage correctly and he admited it was a calculated guess. you'll probably only be able to make a best guess when she is fully grown tbh, but whatever she is you have a wonderfull dog there

Re: Staffy cross??
Hi there mate!
Funnily enough when I saw your pics of Lola I couldn't help but see the resemblance in Roxie, our little (well, not so little anymore) Staff X.
We rescued her from Battersea C&D's Home in London and they were not sure what the other half of her was. Roxie is a lot darker than Lola is but there are still a lot of similar characteristics in features and also how you described her playing. We have a couple of Ridgebacks in our park and there is an uncanny resemblance, although she has bull breed features too:
Playing rough is like an understatement with Roxie, dogs her size (unless bull breed) can be put off by her already overwhelming lust for hardcore play! We think she might be X Ridgeback so Lola stands a good chance!
But like others have said, its really hard to tell...time will hopefully bring some more characteristics out
