Running with your Stafford Empty Running with your Stafford

Hello all, Harley is of an age where he would be able to join us on our runs. Can any one advise on how to start i.e what gear I would need and durations of runs ?
Also Harley has a tendancy to get excited quite quickly and during agility he would jump up and nip my clothes. How would I stop this while running.

Thanks

I would start slowly with short sessions Beth. Depending on how far to intend to run would decide what collar/harness you would need. In either case you need to ensure it doesn't rub.

You might find that as you run, Harley will concentrate on what you are doing rather than other people but I guess you'll have to be ready for him to suddenly stop or turn around to see something interesting.

Hey! My partner runs with Bug, he has a 6ft lead attached to a harness, gives her enough space but not too much. He started off with a few miles and he has worked her way up to 16 miles Smile she LOVES it! Regarding the over excited behaviour, see how he goes. Bug is so focused when running she does none of her silly stuff, doesn't even react to other dogs! He might surprise you.

Have a search for canicross, we are seeing more and more staffy owners join up as well as bikejor. basic principles are 18 months old before running but directional ques can be taught in advance of this. I bikejor my two but have just started canicross as well for my benefit. they generally go balls out for about 5 mins then settle in to a human speed. my two hit 40kph on the bike yet they dumbed down to my speed quite quickly while running although the initial resistance was a killer on my legs. you will need a belt and line with a bungee, can put you in touch with one of the best line makers in the country if you want? you also have to take into account temp and humidity before running. where are you based? I might know of a club near you.
