Chocolate Toxicity Meter
Hi All,
Was wondering how accurate you think this is http://www.petmd.com/dog/chocolate-toxicity I know you have to faff around with conversion tools as well because it's all in American, but it looks legitimate. Is this a false security, or do you think it's legitimate?
Gizmo stole and ate less than 100g of milk chocolate about 2 hours ago and is completely a-symptomatic. He's a bit over 20kg.

Re: Chocolate Toxicity Meter
100g of Milk chocolate is probably not too much to worry about other than keeping an eye on Gizmo. Dark chocolate is the really dangerous type.
Flo ate nearly a whole 500g bar of Dark chocolate and was really quite unwell with shakes and dizziness and a racing heart. We took her to the vets who were brilliant and she was admitted to Dog hospital overnight. They gave her something to slow the heart rate and a drip for hydration and the following day you wouldn't have known she was that ill.
Just watch him carefully

Re: Chocolate Toxicity Meter
I've just given that conversion site a go and it looks reasonably right but caution should used as each dog could react differently.

Re: Chocolate Toxicity Meter
God, Ian that must have been terrifying poor flo. This was the really low in cocoa milk stuff 35% cocoa, and I think I'd eaten about half of it but I put down 100g just in case.
It doesn't seem to have affected him yet, so I'm hoping he's ok.

Re: Chocolate Toxicity Meter
I'm sure he will be fine. It takes a fair amount and as said, Dark is worst by far.
I was really worried bout Flo, she really wasn't a well pooch but to see her the following day as right as rain was a huge relief. The shocking bit though was that the vet consulting fee was more than the overnight in the Dog hospital.

Re: Chocolate Toxicity Meter
He seems to be ok today. Thought I'd written a whole post about this, but it's gone.
He's a bit huffy, but that could be the cold and him getting bumped into by his buddy who's a neopolitan mastiff.
His poo is ok.

24hrs later and no change then he'll be fine. Not sure I saw any post other than this one but hey, who knows
Huffy in cold, wet or indeed any weather that they deem unwalkable is just normal
