changed behaviour after having pups 6 weeks ago
Hey guys so im loving this forum already, i just wanna explain the situation im male 25
my dog skye she has had a litter of pups 6 to be correct, and they are all healthy and loving and cute. but thats not the issue what it is. is that when we first got skye for over 7 month me or the misses could walk skye, play ball with her even play fight but not in a bad way. since skye has had the pups i can still play ball outside with her, play tug of war and she will still play with other dogs happliey.
but here is the problem. if my misses is not walking the dog with us she will literally just sit down and look at me as if to say "im not walking" and she won't budge another inch. but if i said right lets go back she would pull like a mustang to get back to my misses, i even tried saying "right skye lets go pick mummy up" but after 3 mins walk down the street she just won't budge. sometimes she will sit there shaking, whining unless i say lets go home,
if my misses is with us she will walk until her hearts content. and honestly its getting me down because i love taking her for walks, playing ball on the field but it seems its eaither my misses comes or my misses does the walk on her own its like skye is seeing me as an outsider. im not sure why as i have never hit her ever. she has never attacked me or bit me on purpose she did bite though my finger when i went to pick the ball up but i squeeled like a women and she let go.
its strange she will still take commands off me like if we are playing and she starts to growl really loud i will say clearly "skye let go" and she will instaly drop it.
its just the walking bit i don't understand it and over the years i have had other big dog breeds but i have never come across anything like this.
i turned to this forum in the hope someone has experianced this before its like skye has choosen my misses to be alpha

Hiya! How long ago did Skye have her puppies? I've never bred Bug but when she came in to the centre she had recently had puppies and it took her a while for her hormones etc to level out - she was quite anxious for a while and would collect small toys and keep them in her bed, protecting them!
It may just be that your OH is her security blanket - I know that there are others on the forum that have had troubles walking (our admin, Ian, for one) and have found being consistent and firm but kind helped in getting the walks back on track. Try and make them fun, so that she is distracted, rather than having to force her down the road. Reinforce her continuing walking with play or treats.

As well as the good advice above, I'd also suggest using what she wants as a reward for doing what you want. So when you get to a point she stops, you ask her to come with you for just a few steps, then as a reward you turn round and go home. That means you aren't just accepting her saying no, but also you're showing her that going with you is beneficial.
It might mean you do short there and back walks to start off with, but hopefully with the hormones settling but some work, you should get back on track (literally!) soon.

Ah, so are the pups still at your home then? Is your OH the main care taker of them? I doubt that it's anything that you're doing wrong, unless perhaps you're getting frustrated with her when she doesn't walk? Otherwise, she may just be feeling a little fragile and has chosen your OH as her security for now, may well be because she's female, I know that my girl comes to me if she's feeling worried and goes to my OH for play/fun etc.
