My New Pups behaviour !
Hey ive only been on the forum for a few hours and only got my girl yesterday but already have some questions!
Our girl is 7months and she is lovely but some of her behaviour is worrying me a bit
She knows how to sit and i was working on getting her to stay, shes nearly house trained has the odd accident.
When we go to stroke her she automatically sits then lays on her side and paws at you
Also i was throwing her ball for her down our hallway and as i lifted my hand up she flinched and squinted her eyes.
I took her for a walk today and got caught in a downfall of rain which left us both soaking so i tried to towel dry her but starting backing away and doing a whiney barking noise, so i left it and went to give her a stroke but she cowered away?
Also jeremy kyle was on the tv and had a couple shouting there heads off and she started cowering
I told her off today well i just said 'no' when she was chewing my cushion and she ran to the next chair and rolled onto her back
I have to leave her when i go to pick up my son from school but i dont leave her for more than 15mins max and she crys when i leave and i hear her crying from outside when i come back
She is a real excitable girl though so i dont understand this behaviour much none of the other dogs i know / have had have acted like this??
Im really hoping shes not scared of me! She follows me everywhere and tried to get in the bed with me last night
Should i be concerened? (sp?) or is it something she will grow out of??
Oh and sorry for the long post but also she has 2 bald patches one on her head by her ear and another near her tail? Does anyone have an idea what it could be? I was going to take her to the vets but just wanted a idea of what it could be first
Thanks for reading! and sorry again if ive gone on a bit

Re: My New Pups behaviour !
Hi & welcome!
I take it she's a rescue?
Maybe she wasn't treated very well before & she's still very insecure? Have patience & be kind & gentle, but firm. Make sure that you are consistent with your rules (don't allow something one day & then say 'no' another), and just tempt her with lots of kindness & treats. I'm sure she'll improve.
Don't forget, she's still very young & maybe hasn't had the greatest start in life - she needs to settle & to learn to trust again. It may take a little time, but it will be so worth it in the end!

Re: My New Pups behaviour !
As Caryll said it could well be from how she had been treated previous. Although when you said 'No' for chewing the cushion and she rolled on her back sounds very mischievious, almost testing her new boundries. I'm sure she will settle in time and doesn't sound like anything to worry about. With the bald patches it could be fleas or mites, which are easily treated or nothing! Do you know if she is up to date with all her vacs etc???

Re: My New Pups behaviour !
Aww as said above it sounds like she was mistreated before coming to you .. The cowering and whining etc sounds exactly what my previous staffy used to do when we first got him .. Patience and tlc and she'll be fine in a matter of time .. He was mistreated also so we tried to make him feel as safe as poss .. Got him lots of toys to play with, interacting with em' to build trust etc.

Re: My New Pups behaviour !
Thanks for the advice my partner and i got her from a lady who had 4 children, an older rottie and a cat but lived in a small place so i think it was a bit much for her to deal with.
Shes up to date with all her jabs and im going to get her frontlined tonight as ive just found out that shes due to be de-flead
Ive been trying to move alot slower when i go to stroke her and let her smell/ lick my hand before i do so it does not alarm / worry her so much
But giving her the TLC she deserves should be easy She is a lovely dog even though she has just spent the last 20minutes pulling apart her new ball but atleast its not the furniture

When i brought my pup home at 11 weeks, it took mabye a good 2 weeks or so to settle in. Give her time, but dont let her play you either with her big staffy eyes xxx good luck xxx
