Hi ya, welcome to the forum Smile

When you say protective mode do you mean towards the baby ?

hi Ian
I think it protective mode wen baby is here the dog barks at every bang or noise she can hear out side and stands by the baby barking but when baby not here the dog is very quiet and relaxed.
Thanks Melanie

Well the first thing to say is you could well be right. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier had the nickname of the Nanny dog for the very reason that they are very protective of children.

My own girl will bark and growl if me and my youngest son (15) lark about, it gets to the point we have to stop.

Is it just the noise that's worrying you or the heightened state? I would simply reassure her and try and distract and help her calm down so that she knows everything is ok.
