Typical Staffy

Took Flo for an evening walk tonight with my eldest son (who thought we would be passing the pub !) and there was a little drizzle in the air, not much at all but we didn't get to the end of the road before she made her first refusal

I picked her, walked 10mtr down the road and she was happy to trot along but then I got the stand still and her looking up at me with pleading eyes... On we go and half way round our walk that was it. No more eyes, no more standing like a rock, it was a full on reversal. I gave up

Gets home to one grumpy son cos we didn't get to the pub & a soggy dog who thinks she's entitled to her post walk treat !! That's not gonna happen

Why do Staffies dislike the rain so flippin much

I dnt know ian mia toldrates the rain recently but her point blank refusal of storms and pulling me to the nearest shelter

yeap sounds about right Ian sash is just the same,stubborn is not the word!!she diggs her heals in and refuses to go any further until we turn around and head for home

Lol I had this this morning only Axl actually herds me now he will walk in front of me going backwards and then circle me until I give up and turn around!

Smug face here has cracked it. Because Millie and Chaos are obsessed with their whistley balls and their chuckit, there could be a storm force gale and driving rain, with sub zero temperatures and I don't think they'd notice. I've deliberately taken them out to play chuckit in the rain several times and they will now also go for walks in the rain. Millie does get cold so she has her coat on, Chaos will have his later if it gets colder.

Soon as i bring her rain jacket out she runs about then sits shaking yeah i get the point Iza.

For once my Odd Bod Buddy is fine in the rain - shakes a bit but never refuses to go... or maybe its because he is an odd bod ....??

Koda has no issue with the rain at all, yesterday it was pouring down and he went out to the verandah then whined until I let him back inside, raced for his lead & collar and then to the front door, I very slowly put on my jacket & grabbed an umbrella hoping he'd change his mind but nooooooo he insisted then dragged me down the road full steam ahead loving it !

Yesterday it only reached 18c which is really cold for us especially Summer. I thought it was the rain they don't like though not the temp, is it a combo of both ??

Bug will not go out into the back garden if it's raining, she will look to me and then to Martyn before running back to bed. But on a walk she's not problem at all, it just makes her extra speedy for some reason and she charges around, spinning with excitement and getting major zoomies?!

If I get Katy's coat out she runs & hides under the table She is rather reluctant to go out unless her friend is with her, but still tries to herd me back towards home Once we get home & she's towelled off then we have the drama queen routine!! Throwing herself on the floor, rolling & thrashing, rubbing herself over everything

Harley doesn't seem to mind it now. Only if its tipping down he tries to hide under trees. Will go out in the rain, will go into a cold river neck deep but will not have a bath hes a weird one!

Milo couldn't care less about the rain, as soon as he sees his lead and knows he's going out nothing will stop him! It could be the end of the world and he'd still drag me out!

Well he's a staffy cross so maybe thats why he likes the rain

I've often wondered what staffies crossed with water dogs like spaniels or poodles turn out like with regards to water.

Thankyou! Yes he's crossed with a Springer, thats probably why he loves water and chasing birds!

It does seem to be something about rain, Katy will throw herself into a pond or the sea when its warm. Someone did say that maybe she doesn't like the feel of rain on her back, but she's happy to have a shower so it could well be something to do with the temperature

Yeah, Una's similar: a gentle warmish shower on her paws and tum is fine, a gentle rain shower is ok but tipping it down cold rain outside is not fine. Her coat makes it easier but she's inclined to try giving it all the old big puppy dog eyes and putting the brakes on to convince me to head back to home.

exactly the same as you liz, millie loves her chuckit whistle ball so much as long as she has that when its raining shes as happy as can be lol x

my millie has to waer her coat too but she will walk in it, jasper doesnt care he has so much fur i dont think he feels it lol

Gizmo's that under the impression that he's not waterproof. Hates baths, rain, showers, puddles (except to drink) and thinks I put the rain on to deliberately keep him indoors.

Kiki does not mind a walk in the rain....if i get soaked as well. Just her popping out for a quick #1 or #2 does not work.

Tess won't go out for a pee if it's raining, but as soon as I mention a walk she's straight at the door no matter what weather lol

Milo hates the rain too - won't even go pee in the garden unless I take a brolly with us. Out on a walk he has to wear his rain mac and even then he shakes all the time, jumps up us trying to say lets turn round and go home. Once we do he bolts and drags us all the way back. Little buggas
