Not a lot has changed!
I had my first Staffie, a beautiful dog, in the 1970s and a few months later a bitch as well as I fell in love with the breed, and their will always be a staffie in my life. When the dog was just old enough I took him to a training class in a village hall about 10 miles from where I lived. We all had to stand in a circle and I was stood next to a much older man,(I was in by 20s then!) a big fella with a big beer belly, real tough looking guy and he had a little Yorkshire Terrier. Anyway cutting a long story short, he refused to stand next to me because I had a staffordshire bull terrier! Needless to say I never went back to the class.
So nothing much has changed, although to be honest I think its got worse. Not helped by the attitude of the press. Even television programmes show somebody like Frost going to arrest a yob in a rough part of a town, and you can almost guarantee the villain comes out with a growling staffie on a lead and again they are portrayed as menacing.
