Scooby: My Staffordshire Mix.

Hello all!

I rescued my staffy mix almost 2 years ago. I had volunteered for an animal rescue adoption event. I had my sights on a couple of dogs, before I set eyes on Scooby. I was living with my father at the time, and he informed me that he did not want a Pitbull. So, I adopted the next best thing...a Staffy! I had never heard of the breed, so I did some research and found out that the breed was a bull terrier breed. Go figure LOL At the time I adopted him, he was very mellow. He was 8 months, well that's what the organization told me. I took him home, and instantly fell in love and knew I made the right decision. I had met my best friend. He loved me. Everywhere I went; he was right by my side. He could not sleep without me. He could not be without me. However, this did not bode well with the family. Scooby had terrible separation anxiety. He would not let my family sleep. He would claw at the doors, cry and be restless. IT was as if I had my own human baby. Nonetheless I knew I had to help ease his anxiety. So, I practiced leaving the house and coming back in. Letting him know, that I am coming back. I also realized he was a 70 lb dog, and that he had to respect me so I would be able to control him. I used this site for a lot of information, and it has helped with training Scooby. It's been hard,  but so worth it. I love Scooby! I look forward to meeting a few of you, and learning a ton of information! Scooby is a mix, not entirely sure what he is mixed with however.

What a great intro. Well done on the rescue and pleased you've already found the site helpful.

I think a lot of Staffies suffer from separation anxiety. When we first got our girl she would follow us everywhere and cry when we left her. The crying stopped after a few weeks and the following a year or so later & even now, she'll want to be where the action is

Quiet hard to tell what the cross might be from that view but looking great all the same.

My girl also HATES being alone. We have built up a trust, and she is OK alone in the car for some reason, which is crucial because she comes with me everywhere. But if you so much as leave the apartment to take the trash out she will follow you to the door and whine bark until you come back. Something I definitely need to work on.
