School Leaving Proms

Was the school i used to goto was the only one who didn't have one?

who had a prom when finish school?

Nope but they do have them there now though x

we didn't have one, don't think they did things like that in the mid 80's

i had one, twos a bit sh** but i went anyway

never had them in my day, but my eldest had one, but as the years have passed, they are getting out of hand, i wish they would not have them, if you have girls i bet they are so expensive

alot of girls who went to mine spent £1000's literally on there dress etc, i spent £30 on my dress already had the shoes and that, but that was it

No proms when I was at school. we had an in-school party, that was all!

My son had one 2 years ago & I hired evening dress for him - looked a real treat, but he didn't like it much. My daughter had hers last year & she bought her own dress. She didn't want one of these fancy cocktail dresses so she just bought a nice fancy one for about £30, plus some shoes to go with it.

This year they had a leaver's do at a local hotel. They both just wore smart clothes for that. My son came home a little worse for wear as it was the first time he could actually drink legally!

Not in my day but they have reunions Ive never been to any though

No, I've never been to any either. I used to get invited all the time, but not for a couple of years - I think they've given up on me.

Trouble is, I had very little in common with most of them when I was at school, I'd have nothing at all in common with them now!

Forgot to add my kids have had them and my daughter had her dress made by my sister cost me £14 50p her mate paid £900 quid for hers and my daughter won the best dressed female

A lot of schools don't have them. I went to a grammar school which closed down when the schools all went comprehensive. It was an old & rather exclusive school called Carlyle Grammar School for Young Ladies! A lot of the gals from there seemed to have a rather inflated opinion of themselves & love a good reunion to see how much better they are doing than everybody else!

There were 2 schools next to each other in Chelsea - Carlyle was the girl's school & Sloane Grammar was the boy's school. My dad went to Sloane & he wanted me & my sister to go to Carlyle, he thought it would give us a goos start in life. He fought hard to get my sister in, and then I got in because I already had a sibling there!

It wasn't as posh as it sounds. But it was very strict - I can still see the old headmistress standing at the school entrance waiting for pupils to be just half a minute late! God, she was scary!

My school had reunions too, but if i did go wouldn't know what to say to any of them, been too many years !

The year I left school was the first time they had done a prom and was the first school in our area to do 1. I went to TKMax for my dress cost me 30 quid and got my hair dresser sister to do my hair and make up other girls went to extreams spending hundreds on dresses and stuff just for 1 night. Me and all my friends chipped in and got a silver limo there. I think if they ever had a reunion I wouldnt go even though I only left 7 years ago I wouldnt know what to say to people plus I hardly spoke to people when I was in school and the people I did speak to in school I still see now so no need to go lol.

I never had one but Shannons cost me a fortune got Connors nxt June so better get saving again

I think it's so silly to spend a fortune on a dress that they'll only wear once! The hire of my son's suit cost more than my daughter's dress, but she still looked every inch a princess!

Cost an arm and a leg each time, with dresses, shoes and limo's etc....

They have all left school now so I can breathe again lol

Oh and where's the prom dresses ...... Two are on the wardrobe floors.... And one went to charity

I just don't understand it. Such a colossal waste of money!

Both mine paid for their own limousines - they chipped in with several others & all went together.

James wore a hired suit & Eleanor wore a really beautiful dress but not one of these expensive cocktail dresses that never get worn again. The biggest expense, to be honest, were the shoes.

Cause they make you feel guilty Caryll......

My friends getting this ...... I want that etc.. Or everyone will laugh at me if I don't get xxxxx.... Drives you insane, so easier just to give them a good prom night...

Other problem was we moved from the North East to Derbyshire when my eldest was 14... So she had a right time mixing with others due to accent etc. By the time prom came she wanted to make an impression( which I understand ).. Then because she had it, the other two had to aswell
