Excessive Shedding
Hi, I'm after some advice regarding excessive shedding.
A bit of background. Our dog is 3 years old. We've had a few health issues since we got him and all seemed to revolve around him having dermodectic mange. Following a few months of back and forth with antibiotics, we stopped everything and put him on a raw diet with ACV every second day. This lasted two years and he was doing really well. However, he suddenly started to get very bad allergies and we put him on Royal Canine Sensitivity. This helped, but every now and then he would get bad ear infections as a result of yeast build up.
In the last 6 months he has been shedding excessively, to the point if we don't hoover or sweep daily, the floors are completely covered. He got off his bed yesterday and shook, and the tiles surrounding his bed were covered. The hair on his rump and back is very fine and bristly, and if you pat him, hair literally falls out. I'm amazed he isn't bald. I have tried swapping him on to Taste of the Wild recently in an attempt to increase the fish oil content of his food.
We keep on top of the yeast infections by cleaning his ears once a fortnight which seems to work. he still licks his paws quite a bit and we've used ACV to try and relieve some of the itchy feeling for him. I also tried putting tinned sardines in his food twice a week to increase the oil content and hopefully help his skin.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you get around the shedding? We are a bit desperate now as a little worried about how much he is shedding and I don't particularly wont to go to the vet only for him to go on drugs of some sort.
Any help or feedback greatly appreciated.
Cheers
