Warning re keeping collars on
My crew don't normally wear collars in the house but when we visited my husband's parents this afternoon we popped them on so there was something to grab if they started getting over excited or something. As if! As it got dark, Chaos started squeaking to go out. I knew it was to go chasing rats but just in case he did need a wee I let him and Millie out.
After 10 minutes we thought it was quiet so I went out to check, and just as well. Chaos had charged through a flower bed and had ended up with a metal plant support wedged through the buckle on his collar, and he and it were then wedged between two trees. Poor little man was so upset, but I was just grateful that it was nothing worse.
It did, though, remind me that collars can be a danger to dogs running loose, and I won't be leaving them on when they are out of sight again.

I guess the same could be said for certain types of harness as well Liz. I guess it's a reminder to all of us that whilst collars are a good thing when used under supervision, it's always wise to have one eye on them at other times.
Pleased to read that Chaos is all ok though

Re: Warning re keeping collars on
Yes, the same would be with a harness but I think some folks tend to leave collars on as a matter of course in the house whereas you wouldn't leave a harness on. So this is a 'please don't leave collars on in the house/garden' warning.

aww glad chaos is ok liz, i never leave a collar on mia at home as her claw oce got caught in her id tag she was just laying on the floor. i only ever use a collar if i know im getting a visitor and she tries to escape but gets taken off when they leave. if any new owners of pups here i always tell them about the collar as it can be dangerous as well.

Re: Warning re keeping collars on
Happend to my neighbours dog, i tried to help the old lady she left her dog and her sons dog playing in the garden one dog had a harness on and the other a collar and the pup got its collar caught in the other dogs harness and started to panic and twisted the collar so tight round its neck no one could it get it off it died in the garden and the woman broke two fingers trying to get them apart
Re: Warning re keeping collars on
It is a legal requirement here for dogs to have a collar and tags on.
