We are planning to get our first Staffy pup. One of the breeders I am talking to has Staffies descended from South Africa. The other breeder has only UK descent Staffies. Are there any significant differences in the two?

As there's only one Staffordshire Bull Terrier it shouldn't make any difference, although a local dog might have had parents more adapted etc to your climate etc and so given appropriate treatment and so on. The only other dog I know of that uses the name Staffordshire is the American Staffordshire Terrier, which is a different breed, a sort of cousin if you will. The American dog is a fair bit larger though and more inclined to be confused with American Pit Bull Terriers.

I had a breeder recommend not getting a puppy that had a South African heritage, because the English heritage had "more" of the nanny dog temperament. Is there any truth to this?
