What age to ween puppy out of crate at night
So little bolo is getting to almost 6 months and we are thinking about trying to start leaving him out of his crate during the day and also at night where he normally sleeps all night.
What ages did you all start to do this with your pups?
We left his crate door open last night after putting him to bed and heard him come or at 4.40am! He didn't start yapping until his normal time though so it seemed to go ok. What we ideally want is him to sleep on his bed out of the crate eventually.

The ideal time to take them away from their crate is anything from a year to a year and 6 months

Is there a theory or reason behind this age?

I leave Spike in the kitchen inside his crate but i never lock it. At night, i clip a large pen to the crate to give him a safe containment area, but when i'm at work i give him free reign of the kitchen...
His toilet training is coming on really well so he often doesn't go while im away...(What really helped has been 3 walks a day and regularly carting him outside)...
Personally, i'd leave him in the room or use the baby gate.

Re: What age to ween puppy out of crate at night
I'm still using marleys crate and he's 7 months now, and tbh the only reason I'm using it is because when I get ready to go to bed he goes straight in grabs his blanket and goes to sleep think it depends on wether bolo has stopped getting in to mischief haha if he's getting better use a baby gate like col suggested

Ill stop using the crate at night when MissyMoo stops chewing furniture when left alone during the day as i dont have any rooms free that are dog proof .

I still use the crate Buddy is 7 months and still chewing and getting up to mischief - I too have no room I can puppy proof for him.. and he has no issues with the crate he snores his little head off after 5 mins in it! Once he stops wanting to wreck the room I will try him without the crate ...

Re: What age to ween puppy out of crate at night
Buddy has had two different sized crates and a pen - he didn't like the pen he likes to be covered and snuggly .. I will need to get a slightly bigger crate soon for him - there should be enough room for him to stand and move around freely - I noticed his head is almost touching the top of the crate -the next one I get I hope will do him until he doesn't need it anymore ..
