1st night out of the crate :)
Well we decided to just do it,been considering it for couple of weeks now, we took her bed out of her crate, and put her in the kitchen over night with all her toys (looked like a bomb went off in a dog toy factory ) i was expecting possible accidents, maybe a bit of chewing/scratching at the door, i sat at the bottom of the stairs waiting for it to start but was pretty much silent after 2 minutes of her pottering about in there. so i went in to check after 15 mins or so expecting her to be sitting behind the door, opened the door and she looked at me from her bed with sleepy eyes so i told her shes a good girl and went to bed. sent husband down 1st this morning so he could deal with whatever was there and she had slept good as gold, no issues whatsoever. couldnt be happier with her, shes such a lovely young dog. cant wait to be crate free and shes much happier without her crate now as last time we tried she just kept returning to it and sleeping in there without any bedding until i gave in and gave her it back. hopefully she will be fine in there when we go out too now, i hate leaving her stuck in the crate, she needs room to move about.

Well done!
Actually, with Dempsey his crate is his bed! Three sides & the top are covered with an old curtain & he has a vetbed fleece & 2 folded blankets in the bottom to sleep on. He loves it!

Re: 1st night out of the crate :)
Daisy sleeps in her crate but with the door open. I've been told many dogs prefer this as their bed once crate trained because it's like their private little den and they feel secure in it.
I'd love to let her have more freedom than she currently has, but with her 'interest' in the cats and her temptation to chew anything in sight (other than her toys) if I'm not there, it's going to be a long process!

Same as Caryll, Loki's cage is his bed but really glad to hear that it went well for you always great when you're pleasantly surprised.

Rocky sleeps on the bottom of our bed at night, he does have a crate which always has the door open so he can come and go as he pleases. He knows to go in whenever he likes as it is his little den which he loves.

Tommy is crate free on an evening now and sleeps on Jenny's bed, we will still use 1 through the day though whilst there is a lot going on with kids etc or whilst we go out to keep him calm

Ruby is a week older than Ralph, but I am still thinking he's not ready for this yet. Only because I left him for 5 minutes this morning, and he ate another of my coasters. That's only one left now! Little muster can reach on top of the coffee table. Need to work on that!

Re: 1st night out of the crate :)
coaster snacks hey, not good. Ruby is now out of her crate through the nights, and yesterday we left her with the run of the kitchen when we went out too for a couple of hours and she was absolutely fine. Just need to stop her jumping up at and nipping at visitors and the crate can be gone for good
