dog aggression
Hi. We have had our staffy since January. We were asked if we were still interested in a dog by a friend who's daughter found her on the street and took her in. At first when she was let off the lead she was great with other dogs but something has turned in her and she only wants to attack every time she sees another dog which means she can no longer run free and get the exercise she desperately needs as she is such an energetic dog. Any help would be most welcome.

Re: dog aggression
welcome from me and mia, firstly id have the dog on a long line this way they can stay out of trouble . I would also recommend dog classes where an expert can perhaps give a few pointers not just help the dog but yourselves also.

Re: dog aggression
Hi. Having her on the lead is not a problem it's when she's off she will jump on any dog in sight. She wears a muzzle when I do let her off so she can do no harm but she is so powerful she muscles them to the ground which makes the owners understandably hysterical.

Re: dog aggression
The long lines I use are 50ft long, bought on eBay, so she can still run as if she's off lead but you've got full control to stop her if she looks like she will run up to another dog. Will send a longer reply tonight when I'm on my laptop

Re: dog aggression
I've seen them on ebay do you have the retractable or the taut? Looks like it would take an awful lot of winding in if it's not retractable.

Re: dog aggression
Your best with the long line, the retractable lead isnt very strong the long line is stronger and has more control.

Re: dog aggression
They're not retractable, but I've used one daily for 3 years for my dog aggressive girly and it's a god send - and better than a court case for an attack on another dog! Muzzled or not the behaviour could hurt another dog, especially toy breeds etc..

Re: dog aggression
To shorten the long line you could tie any excess round your waist this leaves your hands free

Re: dog aggression
Ozzy is also dog aggressive we have no idea why as he was a rescue but it something we just deal with now after trying everything. He has an extra large retractable lead with an El perro harness He can suddenly see another dog and instantly can hare off so we do have ten control of stopping him. It works for us but I know Rach recommends the log lead. Oz is also so so string that we can make him walk to heel with the retractable. Good luck
