Newbie to the Group, Not the Breed
Hey guys, I'm new here and I was looking for some advice-
I'm 18 and have lots of experience with bull breeds and boisterous dogs! My family have kept bull breeds for years as well as GSDs. Recently we took in a 4 year old bitch called Ruby who is so loving and loyal! However- she is still like a puppy with pulling on a lead and soo much excitement with other dogs!! She's not aggressive toward them, but very defensive. ⬅️Bear on mind she runs up to these dogs and insists on a game of chase so they'll growl and snap at her resulting in usually, a fight. **Its never escalated far as I'm always two seconds behind her!**
I've tried and tried to train her to not be so forward, mostly by socialising her with our neighbours wonderful Golden Lab. He is a good innfluence as he's so well behaved and it seems to work. For 5 minutes.
Exercise wise, she's given:
Half mile walk first thing in the morning
Mile run at 10am
Stroll around the block at 1/2pm
Half a mile in the afternoon 5/6
Stroll around the block before bed.
I've researched my ass off and can't find much on the topic..
Help?

Hi firstly it sounds like her training has broken down and you need to go back to basics socialise your dog and walk alongside an older calmer dog on lead see how she responds on lead

Good idea Mia, I've been trying to teach her basic tricks and commands to keep her mind occupied as they are very intelligent animals. One of my neighbours has a lovely old bull breed cross who's so calm in his old age, I might start walking them together!
Thank you Vikki! 'Zoo' sounds familiar

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Along with walking her with other dogs it might be a good idea to exercise her before play sessions so she is a bit more tired.

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
Recall is the key. If you can get that working well and you're unsure how things are going then recall is the key.

Thank you all!
I'm feeding her Chappie wet food and biscuits.
Looks like we'll be spending lots of time working on her recall then

Totally agree with you, don`t anyone take this the wrong way but, chappie has got to be one of the cheapest and nastiest dogfoods on the shelves. Please, if you can, change to a premium food.
