staffy annd cats
Today was really disappointing and upsetting, Hubby out with Libby our 2year old rescue staff , we have had her for 6months now and in almost every way she is great. She was on the lead, and as he bent to pick up poo, guess his attention was slightly diverted she dived through a hedge at such a rate, he lost the lead, and then yes she was attacking a cat, he and the cats owners got there , also a very sensible lady, who managed to calm things down, thankfully the cat was OK and Libby just a scratch above the eye. The cats owner was VERY angry . We offered to settle any vets bills if there were any. The thing is we were building up such confidence in Libby, I don't think she has been walked a lot and is not too keen on walks . I would be comforting to hear from anyone that has had this happen . In her favour, she is very obedient, loves her home and garden, gets on very well with our old staff, and of course like all staffs so loving and wants to please. But this has shaken my confidence.

Thanks Mia, the cat is staying overnight at the vet, and it seems no permanent damage done, as Libby has a fair amount of scratches, hopefully she will have learned something.

Hopefully she has learnt. Unfortunately my Flo will always chase a cat/fox/squirrel. Fortunately they are all too quick for her.

Bo always chases cats. Three or four times I haven't been quick enough with the extending lead and he's got to them but every time he's either received a scratch or bottled out at the last second. The one time he was off-lead was with my parent's cat. When we got to Bo the cat was rigid with fear and Bo had his face pressed into its belly and was grunting like a pig. I think he thought it was a cushion.
Upshot is, dogs chase cats. If you had a dog that didn't chase cats (assuming you don't own a cat) it would be weird. These things happen, it's not a big deal.

Ok so Katy's weird, she's scared of most cats round here as they approach her Mind you I'd rather that than her chase them

Re: staffy annd cats
Tinks will chase any cats she sees out on walks and will stalk them with a worrying degree of obsession. However with our cat she will try to play but gets told off frequently (our cat is 16 years old and takes no sh** from anyone or anything) and generally leaves him alone. I have even heard her crying and then looked to see what's wrong and it's basically because the cat won't let her get passed to go up the stairs
Moral of the story is I don't think because they chase they necessarily hate cats I think sometimes they don't even know why they do it and by the time they reach the feline it's all got a bit out of hand and fur may start to fly!

I actually think there's a lot of merit in the sentence above.
