boiled bones?
I am at the moment giving Mia rawhide bones but she is getting through these very quickly, i want to start giving something new to chew on to keep her occupied, i have been told by some people that boiled bones are good, anyone else know of these or got any other reccomendations?

Re: boiled bones?
I give Misty a raw Marrowbone from the butchers. I picked her up a massive one tonight and it was only two pounds. Shes crunching away as I type. I might be wrong on both these points so I'm sure others will correct me if I am but I'm pretty sure you should only give raw bones as cooked ones can splinter very easily, also I don't think rawhide are great treats for dogs because they have been bleached. (I used to give my lab them all time as I didn't know!)

Re: boiled bones?
I completely forgot about a stag bar. I only heard about them from this forum (thanks guys) and its a Stags antler. She loves having a good gnaw on that too. Have to watch her incase it splinters but they do last a good while.

Re: boiled bones?
Never feed cooked bones! They can splinter really badly and will cause problems. Raw bones are good but stay away from the giant knuckle bones or big cow bones as they can damage teeth.
The antlers are great! We got a giant one on ebay and it's survived for months. But as with any hard bone like chew, you shouldn't leave it with them for hours on end.
Kongs are also great. You can stuff them with treats or freeze food in them. Keeps them occupied trying to get it out

Re: boiled bones?
Antlers are great and safe, bull bars are the ones that splinter I believe. Never give cooked bones, they do splinter too easily and can cause some nasty injuries.
I never give my Flo raw hide as I worry about the last piece being swallowed whole, but then I am an over cautious dad

Re: boiled bones?
I give Zeus raw marrow bones, Stag bar (definitely a must) and a coconut (cheap and cheerful) for him to chew.
Definitely not boiled or cooked bones for the reasons mentioned above.

Re: boiled bones?
I used to give big beef marrow bones till I saw Bobbert's back teeth had been ground to the gum. I now give veal bones instead, they last long enough but aren't as hard. Just do make sure you take them away when they get very small so they can't swallow a bit that's just big enough to cause probems.
But agree, definitely no cooked bones at all.
