Socialising my dog with people
Hi all
I have a year old staffy cross called kaizer.
He is a very friendly dog who just loves people and children to a point where he wants to leap all over them and lick them to death

Re: Socialising my dog with people
Welcome to the Forum. To stop this you'll need to set some rules and have some tasty treats to hand. When people approach and want to say Hi, tell them he is in training and not to acknowledge him untill he is sat down with all 4 paws on the floor.
When the paws are down and he is sitting then they can say Hi and offer a treat. The trick here is to associate sitting nicely to get the reward

Re: Socialising my dog with people
Thank you, I do take treats out with me sometimes these work sometimes not guess I just need to keep trying he's also the same when someone comes in the house wants to leap all over them so I tend to shut him in the kitchen whilst we have guests I have let him out but it's always the same he's gets very excited and jumpy

Hi, like Ian said treats will help. And also try the same with his favourite toy when people visit.

If a visitor arrives tell theen to fold their arms turn their back and ignore him when all 4 paws are on the floor make him sit and reward him with a pat and or a treat

Re: Socialising my dog with people
Agree with the above, tell visitors to ignore him until he's calm and all 4 paws are on the floor. It's arduous to start with but as time goes on the penny will drop... Eventually
