When do I take my pup home?
My pup is ready in 3 weeks, she is currently 3 and a half weeks,
If everyone collected there pups before me and left my pup on her own with her mum, Would I be best leaving my pup with the mum and dad or could I take her home so she could get used to my dog? Would she learn much from the parents?
The parents are quite boisterous too, where as my dog is lazy and laid back!
I don't want her being left there for her to end up the same, but also I don't want to bring her home too early?
What do I do?

Re: When do I take my pup home?
Hiya so thatwould make her 6 and a half weeks, too early imo, shouldnt really leave Mum til 8/10weeks as its all relevant for the well being of the pup, if good breeders they shouldnt mind in the least to let you leave her til at least 8 weeks old.
When you have a mo pop along and say hi to us all here xx

Re: When do I take my pup home?
Hiya. Agree with Inez - 6.5 weeks is way too early, and they will not be ready to leave mum at this point. You need to wait until 8.
Remember also, that training and environment will only be half of the story - your puppy is made up with those parents genetics, with her own personality on top of that, and will likely be similar to them in temperament and will have learnt an awful lot from them and the environment that she has been in so far. What does she seem like personality wise - when you've met her does she run straight up and say hello? Have you seen her interacting with the other puppies? If so, how did this go?

Re: When do I take my pup home?
Ok so even if the other pups go at that time, then would it make much difference if I took my pup save her being on her own? As the dogs owner works during the day too.
I think he said 3 weeks but probably meant 3 and a half.
He said they could go about the 20th at the earliest.
I've only seen her once which was last week, so she weren't walking or have her eyes open then. I went there to put a deposit down for her.

Re: When do I take my pup home?
And dya think she would be better off with my dog or stay with them? Like I said they are quite hyperactive, but mines really laid back. So the pup would have a calmer environment

Re: When do I take my pup home?
None of the pups should be going at that time. I'm assuming that this wasn't a very well planned litter if there will be nobody home to look after the puppies after 6 weeks?!
When choosing a puppy, it shouldn't be until around the 4/5 week stage and they're up and about and you can see signs of how their personalities are going to develop. At the moment, all you know about your puppy is their colour. A decent breeder would help you to choose a puppy that will be suitable to your current situation - dog and home.
This is a very delicate time in a puppies life, the crucial socialisation period is only up to 14 weeks of age. Most of their learning should be done with their mum and littermates - and then the last 4 weeks should be within your home with your dogs/children if you have any/introducing carefully to other animals (that have been vaccinated of course), people, and daily sights/sounds/smells. This can then continue outdoors when the puppy is fully vaccinated. This is such a crucial stage in your puppies life.

I agree it's best to wait until at least 8 weeks of age. We didn't get Suki until 18 weeks and she is very well adjusted.

Re: When do I take my pup home?
I agree with the above. We got misty at fourteen months and were told the previous owners got her at four weeks! Would love her to have stayed with her mum for longer, they do learn so much.
