Amount of feed
I'm slightly confused with how much to feed Casper..I've no idea how much he actually weighs right now but have googled what an adult male staff should weigh and taken that as a guide when reading the back of the food packet..so it's telling me around 325g a day. I've opted for 400g as If this feeding guide is right ive been giving him more than that anyway and to me he's still looking slim around the middle so I think he may actually be underweight. This 400g takes him down to two full feeding cups a day. I'd been giving him 6 split into two meals. Does 2 cups a day seem enough to you guys? He's in for his boosters this month anyway so he will be weighed and then I can speak to the vet about it, but thought I'd get opinions here first

Re: Amount of feed
You really need to know his weight to make an accurate decision. It also depends what brand you feed.

Re: Amount of feed
Agree with Pete, it all depends on his weight and how much exercise he gets and the actual food you're giving.
Guidelines are exactly that, just guidelines, in the 3 years I've had Zeus, i've rarely used any of the guidelines on the back of the packet, I've also micromanaged his weight/food myself.
In Winter, he gets less food due to his lack of exercise, in Summer, he gets more food because of more exercise.

Re: Amount of feed
Depends on the food you are feeding him you should see the ribs but only slightly and indentation at the back legs . I feed mia three mugs full in the morning and three in the evening but this all depends how much exercise the dog gets. The dog should also be wormed regularly. I would book a vets appointment if u are overly concerned.

Re: Amount of feed
He's been weighed today and is 20.25kg. Their guide chart says he should be between 15-17 but the nurse said he looks in perfect proportion as you can only just see the ribs a little. So they've said to just maintain his size and weight so I can stop worrying that he is underweight

Re: Amount of feed
Good news, Zeus is always between 21 and 22kg so that sounds about right. They always used to say to me too that Staffie's are normally between 15-18kg but that's almost impossible for Zeus, he's on the bigger side and when hes 21kg, he's very lean, so dont worry too much about the weight guidelines they mentioned.

Re: Amount of feed
Breed guidelines often make no sense as not every Staff is the same size! I think not long ago someone on here was told their pup was overweight purely because they didn't fit within the guidelines!
Bane is about 25kg so a right heffer over here! Yet he has a very defined waist and slim build.
Go by his body condition and adjust accordingly If he is healthy now, try to keep that shape in mind to maintain going forward.

Re: Amount of feed
if he is healthy then i wouldn't worry, my girl is 19.5 kg and you can see ribs let alone feel them. she has muscle to make Arnie weap and can pull all 15.5 stone of me on a bike. to most she would be under weight yet the vet says she is the picture of health. in fact both have been assessed an have heart rates bordering on perfection according to the vet. marley is a lil bigger but they eat the same 4 handfulls of active dog each day with raw thrown in very now a
nd then.
nd then.
