Gobsmacked at another dog walker's behaviour today
So Adam and I took Rio to a country park today to walk him somewhere different and for some reason Rio LOVES grass so he was very happy.
We had him on a lead and noticed he started to whine and pull towards another dog a fair bit behind us so we pulled him away and just soothed him and carried on walking. Then the dog sprints up to us and gets behind us so we get hold of Rio's harness as he's whining and giving high pitched barks trying to ward the dog off because he's scared. Adam shouts over the owner politely saying "our dog isn't dog friendly, would you mind calling yours back please". The older guy does nothing, not even a word. Rio is getting more and more stressed and i have to physically remove the other dog from us, Adam again asks the old boy to put his dog on a lead or call him back. Again nothing, still walking towards us. Adam then says "if you can't control your dog you should have him on a lead, please get him away from our dog". So Adam pulls Rio away and I stay with the schnauzer dog until the owner gets closer and I say calmly "we said our dog doesn't like other dogs, you could've called yours back or if you can't, he should be on a lead" and the guy just says "maybe a muzzle next time eh?" talking about Rio, I just said he's rescue, he's not good with dogs, which is why we have him on a lead, we asked repeatedly to get your dog away from us, you should have him on a lead if you can't call him back.
Adam was livid with the guy and kinda thankful i went up to him rather than the other way around as it could've got a lot more heated i reckon, it's just i couldn't believe someone just didn't care how much stress this whole thing caused when we did everything right

The sheer arrogance of some people never ceases to amaze me. Why do these people think it's ok to let their dogs do whatever they want when your doing everything right. As for the muzzle comment, think I might have been a bit less tactful and said that Rio could always use a snack if he can't be arsed to look after his pooch.

What an absolute tool.
Poor Rio, I hope it didn't ruin the rest of his walk.

Absolutely!! If he had any control over his dog in the first place we could've avoided the whole situation. Horrible ignorant people
Rio had a lovely walk either way and was utterly fussed by us!

As if anyone would ever do that to someone! I honestly don't know what I would have said in that situation but I think steam would have popped out of my ears! At least the rest of the walk was pleasant, poor Rio!
