Gobsmacked
It has been a beautiful autumn day here today so I took Harry off for a lovely walk up on the mendips a beautiful area popular with walkers and dog walkers. Had him on a lunge line and we were really enjoying ourselves when we came across a man with an old cocker spaniel and a labradoodle both off lead and the lab made a dash over to us. I politely shouted to the man that Harry wasn't always dog friendly and he replied "well Im sorry but mine is friendly and only young, will not respond to a recall and needs to learn that not all dogs are friendly". I was gobsmacked I didn't want the pup to learn from mine! The guy just left me to it but luckily Harry only gave a couple of warning growls though the lab didn't listen and was persistent. By the time the owner did reach us with his old dog I realised that it wasn't going to be too much of a problem, but Harry can get really aggressive if another dog is in his face. Don't know whether it was that labs lucky day or whether Harry realised it was a juvenile.
To his credit the man did say "thank you and well done", but the outcome could have been so different.

Re: Gobsmacked
Numpty!(the other owner not you)
This why my Meg became DA because offlead aggressive dogs used to jump all over her and bite her.
Obviously his youngster does need to learn manners but using an aggressive dog isn't the answer really.
It's a good job he didn't run into us because Meg doesn't care whether or not the dog is a pup, junior or adult,if it had been in her face invading her space she would have bitten it.

Re: Gobsmacked
People with a lack of common sense should not have dogs. Glad it didn't turn too bad, but it was totally unnecessary. Why would you have a dog that doesn't do well with recall off lead anyway? (the other guy not you of course!)

Typical is all I can say! But it would have Harry's fault if anything did happen, even though your being the responsible one!!

Re: Gobsmacked
Happened to me once with Ju. I warned them and the other party were like "Oh no, they'll be fine..."
They weren't....
But luckily I could get between them before Junior got fully angry but the other dog thought it was a game. I was tempted to slip the lead, but Staffies always get blamed, even if it's not their fault =/

It's always the way! You tell them your dog isn't always friendly, and they say theirs is! And then when all hell breaks loose, as you say, the staff's blamed!

Even when you have the dog under control! "Lead introductions always work."
NO, LOVE...I have just told you that Junior is Dog fearful and your bouncy little yapper is doing nothing to help that. =\ I mean, really?!
( To tell you the truth I sound bullish and headstrong on this topic, but in reality, when people do this it SCARES me. Because I know the consequences and I just want to be able to be able to walk my pup in peace...)

Re: Gobsmacked
Someone angrily asked me, when I has warned them that Junior was unfriendly and scared of others: "Do you take pride in having a dog that can rip others to shreds? Some trainer you are!"
The heck is wrong with you, dude? The fact that you dog is still standing in one piece in front of my dog who is listening to me, controlling every fight n flight instict he has, as well as the training to protect me, since you're in my face, shows how well trained he is.
Good day to you, fool =/
I was shaking with rage, but Junior got so much praise that day for that show of restraint...

Re: Gobsmacked
It amazes me the number of people who pass us on our walks (on leash) and let their pooches approach Tyson. Most dont even ask if he is ok with other dogs and none seem to notice that I am controlling him at my heel. Some dogs are not leashed at all but surprisingly, these seem to pick up on his concentrating/follow my leader mode energy and pass with nothing more than a glance.

Re: Gobsmacked
I often see a bull terrier cross that walks on three legs with one always bent up, always has since it was a pup.Passed it the other day , it was off lead and decided to charge at my two . Owner says to the dog"they're going to batter you" and wanders off.I can just see the headline "staffys eat disabled three legged dog"

Re: Gobsmacked
I dislike that staffies get all the blame =/ What about the Jack Russell that wrecked Juniors confidence as a puppy or that Visla that jumped on him and bit his neck, destroying all trust when he was 3? No, he defends himself and all I hear is: "That dog is vicious, it should be put down."
