Secure Fields Empty Secure Fields

Post by Niffer Sat May 02 2015, 12:34

My friend told me of a new thing happening supposedly where you can hire by the hour a secure field for your dog to run in and play etc., You can either have the field all to yourself or share the cost with friends and their dogs. What a great idea. I've found one in Leicestershire near Bradgate Park but not contacted the owners yet.

This friend uses it and apparently there's all sorts of balls and toys scattered around this huge field. It also has some agility jumps etc. It's on the side of a hill too so plenty of leg stretching exercise for both owner and dog/s lol  Wink . Sounds fab  thumbs up

Has anyone else heard of this? Is it a new thing? If you've used one what's your experiences?

I would love to hire a secure field so we could practise recall with no distractions. Sounds like a great idea!

Yes I used to hire one, its a brilliant idea.  Cost me £5 for an hours
exclusive use but you actually had 5o minutes because you were
required to leave 10 minutes before the next person arrived.

I now have my own field which is Harry's "play pen".  Its totally
and securely fenced and gated, has parking and I keep balls there
and have some jumps etc.  Also have some park benches to sit
on and admire the views overlooking lakes. We use it every day
as well ask normal walkies.

I'm the other end of the country from Leicester otherwise would
have been happy for you to use it.  Smile  If you do get the chance to
hire something near to you I can recommend it.  Its great to
see staffies running free and know they are totally safe, plus you
have the bonus of no other dogs around.

I live in London so I doubt there's any near me but that sounds absolutely brilliant. Be a wonderful way to ensure the little beastie is all tuckered out.

Funny enough I mentioned this to my OH today just as we passed a field up for sale next to the A3. It couldn't be a wage earner but could you lose on the land ?

Maybe put a wooden outhouse there or something and away ya go. Worth looking into I guess.

I also live in London and I'm researching this as I want to buy some woodland or a field and secure it for people to hire and use. I also want to start up a dog walking business eventually where I have this secure place I can walk dogs. Doing my research and keeping an eye out for a decent field/woodlands near London as like the others have said above there's nothing near us of this sort and I actually think its a fab idea!

I know part of the problem when we're on walks is me being so anxious about other people's reactions and the flump picking up on it so a field like this would be amazing.

Can't see one that's even close to london.

Yeah I know it sucks that there's not one which is why I think if I can get my hands on something it would be great! It's just all the things that come with it like insurance and fencing etc and also finding a decent sized plot ... I will get there though!

Wonder how easy/feasible it'd be to buy brownbelt site and grass it.

For a sizeable plot it would depend what was there before I guess. If it had loads of concrete on the ground it would cost way too much to dig it up and get rid I would think but if it was a small building with a large area behind say, then it could be done I would think.

not totally on subject ..
but just to mention ..

for folks who might make it to Ilkley (west yorkshire )
there's a fairly secure field north of the river wharfe
at the west end

see pic link .. area coloured red

https://i.servimg.com/u/f19/18/53/24/68/secure10.jpg

it's fenced in .. although some fence gaps are big enough for a staffy to get through .. but not invitingly so ..
there's 2 gates either side ..
once in a while there are sheep or cows kept in the field for a short time .. sometimes the owner spreads some muck to help the grass grow ..

it is one place where i can let Lady off her lead for a good run around .. once in a while there are other dogs there ..
plenty of space :-)

all the other green areas in the pic are parkland ..
and at the east end .. to the north is woodland with trails

I used to use one up in Newcastle...it was a huge public park but there was one section that was completely fenced off, you didn't have to pay, I guess it was just come first served. Such a good idea! We need more of these!
