Humping Empty Humping

Post by doie1 Tue Apr 14 2015, 21:25

Howie is now coming up 17 weeks, I took him for a walk this evening and everytime I stopped to talk to people he would jump on my leg and start humping it, what is the best way to stop this please?

i would say he was far too young for this behaviour and its become a habit for him have you thought of distracting him perhaps with a toy? hope someone will be along with better advice.

all sounds normal, Harley has done this from roughly the same age and he still does it on occasion for attention we found the best way is to discourage with a firm no then redirect his attention onto something else. i.e ask him to sit and give paw or throw a toy for him. hope this helps Smile

I would try as Beth suggested, distract him with some training and treat when he has done what you asked Smile

Bane had a minor phase of humping anyone in a fleece material, we did as above.

buddy is only 14 weeks and he has started humping when he is tired and being naughty if you tell him off and walk away he grabs your leg and starts- a firm no has stopped this so far hopefully it is just a stage he is going through as he is a bit young to be humping - although did try and hump a very large Lab he was playing with yesterday -she was not amused - and put him in his place !
