Iza was at vets and said she was overweight at 18.3 kg and staff bitch should be 13.5, seems a bit low and she certainly isnt chubby. So whats best non sugar, fat treats.

Re: another weight topic
13.5 is ridiculously low - breed standard for girls is 15.4kg but I rarely see a staffie that small. Bug is 18.5kg and vets have said she is perfect weight. Iza isn't bred to standard anyway, is she? If she's looking chunky just reduce her portion sizes and general treat intake, and up the exercise a little. No need for no fat/sugar etc they usually make up for those ingredients with other junk!!

Re: another weight topic
Try not to worry lovely, I rarely weigh Bug I just go by how she looks. Type in dog weight chart to google images, that'll help to tell you it she's the right shape/size.

That's how we judge as well. We use a dehydrator to make Suki's treats. Either fish, chicken, or steak

Re: another weight topic
Shows you how woeful vets advice can be. They have a quick look at a chart of standards and judge you and your dog by that. If you can feel her ribs without seeing them and she gets plenty of exercise and good grub then charts mean nothing. The only way Staffies can reach those kinds of numbers is if the dog's very small all round. The average pet Staffy will be inclined to be larger than the standard so this doesn't apply, only common sense really as a larger dog will weigh more than a smaller dog of the same breed.
Re: another weight topic
My Nita is 15kg which the vet said was ideal for her size (she is small). I can't visualise a 25kg Staffy lol Im that used to her size.
Re: another weight topic
She looks fine to me Col. My Flo went to the vet today and was told she was overweight !!.. She has a waist and I can easily feel her ribs so even though she's put on a lb or 2 she still looks fine to me.
I agree with the others, you know Iza and know what she should look like

Re: another weight topic
Dogs, just like people are all individuals, what suits some might not suit others. If your dog is 'Fit & Active' then she is great as she is.
Re: another weight topic
Has she got a 'defined waist'? Yes? Then she's fine.
A bunch of people kept on calling Gizmo fat after xmas and I was so worried I mentioned it to the vets. She was outraged on his behalf and said the two rules for staffy/staffy x dogs were a) defined waist b) feel ribs a bit.
Have you considered registering her with another vets? That one seems like they don't know anything about dogs.

Re: another weight topic
Sod the weight as its so subjective and open to debate on a forum withought seeing pics. a nice tummy tuck and a waist seen from the top down is about right.

Re: another weight topic
I find it rather strange for a vet to say that a staffy bitch "SHOULD be 13.5 kgs". Staffies have a very broad gene pool and vary quite a lot in size etc. My staffy girl weighed 14.5kgs when I adopted her, and she was very clearly still underweight (she is a rescue dog).

Re: another weight topic
She's lost 1kg this month, putting it down too winter fat and not as much exercise over winter, the vet was impressed with her a couple weeks ago. Mind you i am also looking closely at the treats i am buying her now. Post a pic of her new streamlined waist later
