Devils claw root
Hello,
Could anyone advise me on how much Devils claw root I should give my 22 month staff ? I ordered it from Amazon, but it doesn't state the directions or dosage.
Thank you in advance!

Re: Devils claw root
is there anywhere else you can purchase this from as it doesn't give directions or dosage id send it back to amazon . Perhaps ring the vet to see if theres an alternative for the dog.

Re: Devils claw root
I bought it from Amazon as it specified that it's for dogs as well as horses, and the reviews were really good, I've just sent the seller on Amazon an enquiring email about the dosage, but thought I might get a quicker response on here

Re: Devils claw root
Yes Barney has sprained his back legs, I don't want him to be on any more pain meds for the next few months he's on his 2nd lot of painkiller and I'd rather try the alternative x

Hi Stella,
He has been to the vets, but I'm concerned about the long term use of meds on him

Re: Devils claw root
i would seek advice from another vet , im shocked they have given the dog medication instead of trying something like a hydrotherapy pool or an alternative.

Re: Devils claw root
The vet said to give him no more than 4 15 minute walks a day (on lead) we took it upon ourselves to take him to hydrotherapy, we've been taking him for the last 5 weeks, but he still seems to be limping
He was also on piriton, but now I have him on Sulphur and Rhus tox, which are just as good but natural x

Re: Devils claw root
Hi Ian,
I heard from a few dog owners and in dog magazines that it helps with pain and mobility, I chose to buy the dry root as opposed to the liquid, as they said the liquid may cause ulcers in some dogs, I will definitely let you know how Barney gets on with it
Barneys knee keeps popping in out of his socket, plus he sprained both legs when he jumped up to a branch on a tree and landed awkwardly

Aww bless him. Can they do something about the knee ? I guess the sprains will get better given rest etc.

Re: Devils claw root
They said that with rest and less walks he should recover in about 8 months
But because of his issue with his knee, we cleared it with the vet and took him to hydrotherapy (the vet didn't suggest this, we came up with the idea because we'd seen it on 'supervet' and read about it) to build up his muscle, so that this would help keep his knee in place. The vet said there is an operation but Barneys to young as he's not even 2 yet

Re: Devils claw root
Ah yes... Good point about the age. I bet he's frustrated having to be on restricted exercise bless him but hydro will help with excess energy too. Do let us know how you get on and 8 months is a long time but it'll pass before you know it

Re: Devils claw root
Yes Ian, 8 months is a long time, and all Barney wants to do at the age he is, is run around and have fun.. you're right Ian he is frustrated due to us having to restrict his exercise

Re: Devils claw root
I will let you know Stella
Like I mentioned before he's on alternatives for piriton and he's getting along just fine so I'm hoping due to all the good I've heard about Devils claw root that it will become his alternate for pains/aches fingers crossed x
