Naughty behavior
Hello everyone, so Harley is coming up to 8 months and on the whole he is coming along great. His latest achievement is walking on the lead which as much improved with a lot of treats and praise but as of recent he has started being very naughty and today I was at the end of my tether with him. Just wondering if anyone else pup does these certain behaviors and how would I go about correcting them.
- He has completely gone deaf on walks, I used to let him off lead quite a lot and he would come back 90% of the time we have had a few incidents where I've let him off and hes sprinted behind to play with another dog. I have him on a long lead or flexi lead and always practice calling him back and treating but if there is a dog or person in the distance he refuses to come back and will lie on the floor and wont budge even if i pull him he will still just lie there. sometimes i tell him to wait and when i get near him he will lunge forward and nearly pull me off my feet and wrench my shoulder out. Today on his flexi he saw two collies playing and tangles me up in the metal railing and kept lunging and I have bruised and cut my knuckle from him lunging so much.
-Jumps up on the sofa when I am on there and gets over exited and tries to hump me and my partner and will not listen to get down where before if you said down he would just get off. If i push his bum off he will nip me.
- pulls his bedding apart while looking at me and pulls clothes of the radiator while looking at us.
- trying to put him in time out he will just jump about or nip us if we try and usher him out by his bum.
- being more destructive such as biting through wires, shoe rack and banister.
It just seems he thinks he is in charge even though we always make him wait for his food and wait until we go out the door for walks. I'm getting really frustrated and upset by his behavior as I feel i am trying everything and at 17kg he is so strong already and do not want to be at the stage where i can control him .
He has two 40-50 min walks a day and gets 10-15 mins off lead chasing his ball.
He is on barking heads puppy food and for treats I use his kibble and the James well beloved cracker jacks and the occasional sausage cut up.
Thank you

Re: Naughty behavior
Sounds all normal to me Beth. Harley is in that typical teenage phase and will push the boundries at all opportunity.
You need to keep doing what you're doing and be consistent with it. This phase will pass and you'll wonder what happened to that little (Big) rascal. You might also want to try upping the training to wear him out mentally and see if that makes things better

Re: Naughty behavior
What do you use for collar and lead?
We use a non pull harness and a half check collar, with a 6ft double end lead. If she decides to pull she can be restrained with the harness and a correction through the collar.

Re: Naughty behavior
Hi Pete
hes on the same without the half check collar lead walking is working perfectly. He just lunges on the long lead and refuses to budge when he sees someone.

Re: Naughty behavior
Does indeed sound like teenage behaviour. I'd go back to basics and and in an extra training session or two.
