Hi and welcome to the Forum from Flo & me
Well done on the rescue, he looks great. The growling could well be an invitation to play. Staffs can be quiet vocal
I moved your post to introductions so that everyone can say Hi.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. It will likely take him awhile to settle so just be patient and don't try to force things.

Re: staffy cross dalmatian
Wowzers! That's one stunning dog you've got there .
I agree with the others to a certain extent, give him time and security, and he'll come round. What I would add, though, is to avoid making allowances for unacceptable behaviour because you feel sorry for him. That will only confuse him later on when you decide he can't do that any more. So if chewing the curtains will be no in a couple of weeks, make it no now.
Remain positive in everything you do. Have a confidence that you may well not feel, but that will give him trust in you. What he needs most right now is to know that you will always be there for him, so you need to be his leader and his rock. So don't lead him looking back to see if he's coming, and don't wait for him to decide if something is ok or not. Show him that YOU think it's ok and that he can put his faith in your decisions.
By the way, he doesn't look like a bait dog. You can tell them by the scars... . That's good, because he hopefully won't have a fear of other dogs. Keep your eye out for reactions to others and to things you do, especially things like raised arms, sticks, etc. You might find he reacts to things he recognises as something that's hurt him even though it's not quite the same, so hoses, brooms, stuff like that. If you come across issues, you'll possibly find that people like Rachel and myself have met them before, so do ask. We've both had a fair bit to do with rescues, both in centres and with our own.

Re: staffy cross dalmatian
may be possible hes had a bad experience around a woman before just get them both gradually to get used to one another with treats even sitting on the sofa with a treat in her hand from ur previous post sounds like your girlfriend isnt used to dogs either he will pick up on that. simple things like grooming will build your dogs trust a little just dnt use the brush yet.

Re: staffy cross dalmatian
Neutering is a personal choice and may not make any difference in temperament. Personaly I would give him time to settle down, he's been through a rough time and needs to feel settled. Once he is you'll see a much calmer dog and I'm confident the growling thing will cease

Re: staffy cross dalmatian
Ask your girlfriend to sit quietly with a treat in her hand, making sure she's sitting side on to him and not looking at him. Face to face and eye contact are quite aggressive body language things for a dog. Get her to stretch out her hand just a little, still relaxed, so he can smell the treat and see if he will come to her. If he does, let him have the treat with no fuss, still not looking at him, and set up to do the same again. A few times of that should hopefully let him relax.
When he does come to her, to start off with I'd keep that lack of eye contact and also ask her to refrain from stroking him until you feel he's comfortable.
See how that goes, and fingers crossed.

CUte wee.bugger but. Wont leave my side always sits up on my shoulders and always barks at peoplE wearing hoodies when where in the car? and when me and the missus sit on the couch he will lie across me and il pet him no bother missus gives him.a treat peefect but when she touches him.he growels.and shakes now we left Him in the sittin.room and went to bed the wee bugger can open doors so when we go to bed he invites himself In under the covers and is all nice and cosey with the chick and licks Both oir faces in the morning. Does he get selfish and protective over Me I find his character fine one minute and bizzare the next

Re: staffy cross dalmatian
Depending his experience with women perhaps he senses u will be his owner , he will take a lot of settling in . I would just tell your girlfriend to leave the strokes for the minute allow him to build the trust up let the dog approach her. I would slowly start training him now so he doesn't display any unwanted behaviour later on. If you dont want him in bed beside you id buy a baby safety gate limit him to a few areas of the house. It probably means his previous owner hasn't given him much routine id try and have that also and that will help him settle more quickly.
