does anyone homecook for their staffy?
Hello
Im just wondering at all if anyone homecooks for their pooch?
Im now thinking were lookin at a chicken intolerance aswell as grain and possibly beef (it has been ages since we tried beef as she had really bad tum afterwards)
Im willing to give raw a go again but wondered about home cooking the meat and adding blended veg n fruits (i could make ice cubes of it and use as needed) but i was researching and found i would need to use lots of supplements....is that true?
I just want something natural for her allergies and theres levels of chicken in most tins and pouches, even salmon and rasp etc has chicken!
Suggestions would be great for homecooking or a wet food that sounds suitable

Re: does anyone homecook for their staffy?
We have done home cooked meals for our previous dog. Basically we just added meat and veggies and rice and she was okay. The rice doesn't have allot of nurtitional value more of a filler but the brown rice is healthier than white. The only supplement we used was for her joint health.
Sorry I could not be more help but nutrition for dogs is not an area of my expertise.

Re: does anyone homecook for their staffy?
Thank you for sharing. Im just exploring avenues with this and raw etc.
"Dog" food isnt working with her i really need to find a diet to help with her behaviour and allergies. I was thinking i could buy frozen pork, lamb chops, fish etc and cook it and add the defrosted ice cubes of fruit and veg mix. I know raw would be easier with the nuggets and blocks but if i can avoid raw meat i will ahahahaha!

The raw diet is probally healthier and more nutritionaly balanced and it's what we feed Suki now. She had allot of allergy problems as a pup but that has stopped since we switched to raw.
If the raw meat is something that puts you off there are companies that produce raw food that comes in a tube which we used for awhile. Currently we have raw horse meat turned into a dry food w/o preservatives or additives. We use this for when we travel instead of the raw meat.

Re: does anyone homecook for their staffy?
I haven't tried home cooking personally, but my parents used to have a Doberman who lived on boiled chicken and rice. I wouldn't have thought that there would be enough nutrition or variation in that, but I think she had bad food allergies or some kind of medical condition where the vet told them to feed just that.
The nuggets and minces you can buy at PAH etc. are really good if you are not keen on the raw part of feeding raw meat It's as easy as just tip what you need into a bowl without any handling just as you would a bag of kibble. They have lots of different flavours too
