Tammy is in season - a bit of advice please?
Hello everyone - my little 5 yr old Staffie Cross (ex-rescue) came into season about 10 days ago. We were hoping she had aleady been spayed as she has a scar on her tum but this must be from something else. Having never had a female dog before, can you tell me - the bleeding (spots really, not that much tbh) stopped (mostly) after about a week, but she seems to be even more interesting to dogs now, even bitches are showing a lot of interest. I'm really having to be careful where I walk her and wondered how long it will be before she stops "smelling" so nice to other dogs? We will be having her spayed, I understand we have to wait up to 8 weeks after the season has finished. Thanks for your help!

Tammy will be in season around 21 days, some seasons can be a little shorter some a little longer. Many bitches will be really good and clean themselves so you will not notice a lot of blood around, towards the end of the 2nd week you will see the blood change colour to a light pinkish straw like colour, this is when she is more fancyable to them rouge males out there! a lot of people wont walk there dogs when in season,i used to walk sash early in the morning when i knew there was'nt many dogs out

Agree with Stella, it's best to walk her when other dogs are unlikely to be out.

What Stella says, my girl is in heat as well.
She just gets shorts walks the now and more play in the garden and def kept on lead when walked. I stay in a small village so i know most of the dogs and where they are walked and there is no strays so its a little easier but she is getting done in 3 months.

Re: Tammy is in season - a bit of advice please?
Thanks guys, you're right, she is now towards the end of week 2 and seems to be even more interesting to male dogs - the bleeding however seems to have stopped more or less completely. Poor love is desperate to have a run around, luckily she was able to have a run with another female dog that she knows tonight. I had a tricky time though last week, having gone to a field where there are normally no other dogs, but with it being half term there were some others around, and although Tammy was on the lead, two male dogs would not leave her alone and had run quite a way from their owner. He eventually got over to us and got them away but it shook me up a little. Will chose my areas/times carefully. Only a week to go!

Great advice above concerning her season.
I would just like to add that most vets want to wait 12 weeks after a season before spaying. A little longer before the next period of confinement!
