training gone a bit wrong
hi George is 13 months and reasonably quick at learning but i think ive gone a bit wrong somewhere trying to teach him not to jump up
ive tried several methods and we are getting there slowly but somehow the stage were at at the moment is that he still jumps up .....apart from when i ask him to do it
the only time he wont jump up is when i tap my chest and say "off"
holding his paws when he jumped up worked the first time then he quickly realized that if he only jumped half way up i couldnt stop him - he outsmarted me yet again !
any tips ? or should i continue with the chest tapping until he associates the word "off "with it

If what you are doing is have an effect albeit slow, then carry on with it. You might find that starting a new method sets you back whereas you've already made progress Kath

Re: training gone a bit wrong
I think your problem may be that you say you "have tried several
methods". Really you need to stick with one, and stick with it for
quite a long time (especially with jumping up) before you see results.
My method of choice would be what Crystal said, turn your back and
ignore and then reward with affection or treats ONLY when all 4 feet
are on the ground.
It won't happen overnight but one day you will realise that George
hasn't jumped up
