Crying Puppy afraid of the dark?

Post by Sneggysister123 Sun Jan 25 2015, 19:47

Hey everyone Smile

Leo is 3 months old and toilet training during the day is going quite well- I encourage him out after naps and after playing. However, I think he's afraid of the dark? During the evening he really won't go out? I can lift him out at the mo but he's going to be too big eventually.
Thanks!

Hi ya Claire, carry on doing what your doing. If you give in and let him win that battle you'll regret it. Take him out and stay with him and once he's done what he needs to, give loads of praise, really make a fuss.

When you get a min, pop along here and say Hi:-

Dogs have Better eyesight than us in the dark perhaps something happened to make the dog scared. Slowly as above would be the best approach.

Is he a foodie? If so, try tempting him out with a treat. Or maybe with a favourite toy, playing with him around the doorway and then outside, until he understands that outside at dark can be fun. Millie had a day or two of brakes on in the doorway, more because of the cold even though she has a coat. 5 minutes spent with a handful of treats, repeating in and out several times, did the trick nicely.

Maybe a little playtime outside so he knows there's nothing to be scared off? Then plenty of praise and treats once he's had a piddle Smile
