Afraid of my Puppy!
I babysat a little boy today in my home and he was afraid of Saxon! This wouldn't be so surprising to me, but he has a 140 pound Newfoundland at home!! Saxon was waggling and looking adorable and the boy kept asking me to put Saxon in his crate! I finally did and he looked so sad. My poor baby! Later I found out from my boyfriend, who works with the boy's mother, that she told him to be careful of Saxon because "he's a pit bull and they can be unpredictable." I am so furious over this!! My poor baby had to spend the afternoon in his kennel because the boy I babysat has a breedist mother!

Stupid woman - a sure fire way of creating a phobia in a child! Didn't she think you'd have control of him, for pity's sake?
Poor boy, he'll always be scared of pit bulls & pit bull type dogs.

Re: Afraid of my Puppy!
It really upset me! Of course I would have control of Saxon if I was going to bring a child into my home! If she really had a problem with it she shouldn't have let me watch him! His nervousness could cause aggression in some dogs! Not Saxon, he just wanted to play. I think Saxon's puppy playfulness didn't help his case because it looked to him like aggression since that's what his mom told him! I just hope the poor boy will meet a bully dog one day that changes his mind. Ugh. I will never understand people.

What a STUPID woman and in my opinion a very anti staffy one at that !
We can do without comments like that especially from one thats a mother and is prepared to raise her son to be scared to death of them.
And the cycle of anti-staffies continues...

Re: Afraid of my Puppy!
It's also sad that the boy's growing up witha Newfie... decidedly the worlds most stable, loving and calm dog.
I have a feeling this poor kids going to grow up afraid of any dog that moves at a speed slower than a crawl and spends more than 2 hours a day awake. Labs, Retrievers, Dalmations. You name it, the fear is there now.

I would have been fuming!
i would have also told her what for, what a stupid thing to tell a child. Also why would she let you look after her child if thats how she feels? other than that shes simply trying to scare her child.

We had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago at a boot fair, a woman with a young child said keep away from that dog its the same type that bit you. We ignored the stupid woman but felt sorry for the child who would most certainly grow up with a phobia about Staffies.

I know! Any tail wag or wiggle Saxon made startled the poor boy. His definition of a dog is very different then most dog's temperaments are! He would probably already be afraid of Saxon just from his wiggles, but for his mother to have compounded his fears by telling him they are founded is just wrong and disgusting. I feel for the boy and I am so sad that he has to go through life like this!
