It could be that the cars are just strange noises to him, things he hasn't heard before. May be just needs a bit more confidence in himself to go very far yet. Keep to short walks gradually build them up.

Re: i think my dogs afraid
a puppy ds to get used to the world and it will be a little unnerving sometimes with all the noises and smells and cars and people moving fast. dont walk him too far but if you wnat to go somewhere that is a bit far for him to walk keep picking him up and carry him now and again. the more exposure to the world he gets the better he will become and if you show your not afraid then he will. dont forget to take treats and keep telling him good boy. remember also that your almost 6 feet in the air he is only a couple inches off the ground at the moment so the world down there to him will be scarier than it is up in the air for you

Yes, he's experiencing so much for the first time, and I should think it's a bit unnerving! Just take him for 5 or 10 minute walks three times a day, don't sympathise with him if he's frightened, just attract his attention with a treat & encourage him to walk on.
He'll soon get used to all the strange sights & sounds.

Agree with all. Let him experience the world at his own pace. Don't force the issue because you could make his fears worse. He will gain confidence and want to go further and adjust to smells and noises at his own pace. Just reassure him and soon enough he will never want to stop walikng.

the big bad world can be a pretty scarey place to a puppy when they first venture out.. just take it a day at a time...at the moment everything is so new to him..the more you go for little walks, the more he should get used to things... but don't force him.
