Destroying toys!
Hi
I'm having a tiiiny issue with Quinn, she an angel 90% of the time, like, she doesn't chew furniture, she doesn't have toilet accidents, she doesn't bite, etc. The issue I'm having is that she's going through toys at an alarming rate, she has no interest in playing with them, just chewing them and ripping them apart as soon as she gets them! I can't have any rope toys, or anything soft or hollow or anything, but she doesn't enjoy playing with solid toys
Even with tennis balls, she rips all the coating off. Haha.
I've looked into "indestructible" toys, but as I said, she doesn't have any interest in toys that she can't rip apart/tear to shreds.
Is this normal puppy behaviour or is she unusually destructive? Will she grow out of it?

Re: Destroying toys!
Zeus is the same.. anything that you give him, he just wants to tear up!
You definitely need to get her a stagbar, it will curb alot of the chewing/biting and will tire her out. Zeus will at times sit there chewing on it for an hour.
Also, invest in some 'chuck it' balls from Amazon.. they are the only balls that Zeus has not gone through, and he's given them a good go, they're well worth the money (got them from Amazon).
Also, a good and cheap toy is a coconut! Zeus will play and chew that too.
Normal 'toys' are really no good for staffies.. I brought Zeus a teddy bear which is bigger than him for Xmas.. he loves it, almost like its his friend but when we first gave it him, he chewed it alot. I told him off a few times, took it away.. now he knows he shouldn't chew it.

It's not a puppy thing, it's a Staffy thing!
Get used to it, and search for bargains. Just think that the rope is flossing her teeth. Coconuts and stag antlers are almost a must, and our girl likes a bull horn too.

"A staffy thing" Oh God.
I'm keeping all of her toy scraps, so she'll have lots of teeth floss.
Going to stock up on bones/horns etc. She has a bone with filling and it's the only thing that's lasted haha!

Re: Destroying toys!
Bo is the same. He hold toys made from material in his paws and uses his front teeth to tear them into shreds, spitting the bits to the side. He eats stag bars like I eat Snickers bars and a Nylabone will last no more than an hour before one end is completely gone. As for food treats... pfff.... At Christmas we gave him a huge dried sausage that my mother's terrier takes hours of chewing to eat - Bo scarfed the whole thing in three seconds.

Re: Destroying toys!
Apart from the kongs Theia has, everything has been destroyed or damaged. Solid rubber bones and tug toys are chewed and spat out and rope toys are for making a mess in her eyes!!

Re: Destroying toys!
george is exactly the same - even totally destroyed a large kong meant for mastiffs
the thing thats lasted the longest is a kong wheel
even his indestructible christmas ball is covered in teeth marks and scratches...too big to get into his mouth so he holds it in his paws and scrapes his teeth along it
still, he doesnt chew up carpets anymore

Re: Destroying toys!
Errrr did nobody tell you that a rope toy is probably the best toy ever invented according to most Staffy's. I have yet to find a toy that my Flo likes and won't destroy in seconds... Oh she did have a tennis ball that lasted 3 days once

Re: Destroying toys!
Haha so funny reading through everyones comments We have a strange mangled homemade toy made up of the all the pieces of destroyed ropes and teddies tied together! Good to recycle them
We too have an antler which Bane loves to chew along with a Nyla Bone. The black Kong is a good toy too because you can fill it with food and treats which might keep her interest
Lately though Bane's favourite toy is a roll of old socks! Every time we get a hole in the toe we just add it to his 'sock ball' and he goes nuts for it! Because the socks are all in layers, he pulls one off and then leaves it to get the next layer off and so on. Then we just wrap all the socks up again for the next day!

Re: Destroying toys!
Hahaha I've kept all of her shreds and I'm going to do some make shift toys for her, she's a little psycho with toys haha!
I'm just so glad that it's not a destructive problem, I was worried that she was more destructive than others, but glad to hear it's just a staffy thing
Quinn is obsessed with socks too, I'm running out! haha.
