Vicks vapour rub on things like furniture. Has she got anything like a stag bar or Kong? and how much exercise does she get a day?

Sounds a bit like seperation anxiety. Try walking her right before leaving and leaving a TV or radio on to keep her company.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
We found that when we allowed Bane extra space at night/when we were out of the house he started chewing the skirting boards and my kitchen cupboards *not impressed* We returned him to his usual pen and made sure he had a kong or antler and he has returned to his usual behaviour. Has she got a safe place you could leave her?

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
My pup was the same, I smothered things in Vicks (ie outdoor furniture legs, outdoor power point) and accepted that I will never have a garden as long as he's a pup and we're both off at work for lengthy periods during the day. He did eat the BBQ knobs, but only once!! He's also left with tonnes of toys to chew on and distract him etc. Other than Vicks being a hit I left him with an old hose he had once chewed through, he tends to drag that around during the day and chews that up

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
I would go back to basics and leave her In a restricted area when left alone after being exercised and with lots of kong, toys etc.
maybe start from leaving her 5 -10 min and build it up so she'll learn you are always coming back.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
I wouldn't leave her in a muzzle because if she gets distressed and tries to get it off you are not there to stop/help her if she starts scratching at her face etc.
Did the vicks or vinegar not work? Have you tried using a crate?

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Lula kept going under my bed and trying to get at the lamp wire i covered it in vicks. It does work but you may have to put more on if they go back to it. Lula latest one is jumping on on the trampoline and pulling out the padding it now all over the garden another job for me in the morning.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Have u got a crate for her??? Try putting her in there when you leave the room, and just keep practicing with her. She might chill out once she has her own space.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
This time round with a puppy we used the same idea we had with the kids when they were young an exhausted one is a good one and so far so good, we think Harry sleeps most of the day waiting for the next walk with play time ball being thrown swim and other dogs.
You would think 2 x 40min walks would be enough but are they just on the lead or do you let her off for a good run? does she play with other dogs on the walk.
The other thing is are these walks at the same time every day dogs like a routine and will expect a walk and rest up waiting for it.
Cheers

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
I echo above!! We take loki out for 2 hours every morning, on the lead walking time and the rest is off the lead running with other dogs, then he gets a short walk in the evening so he doesn't go mad.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Considered trying a muzzle as we have used sprays and crate but in a crate shes wees and poos everywhere freaks her out as she was abused off last owners as a pup.

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Have you tried popping treats in there and associating it with being positive, a muzzle might frighten her if shes been abused. I wouldn't leave a muzzle on her if you go out, just because she could hurt herself. Just personal opinion, do you think she might be bored? Loki chews up stuff when he's bored.or anxious

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
I think the chewing maybe coming from the separation, she's probably nervous you arnt coming back, have u tried going back to basics?? Leaving the room, coming back in and if shes not chewed give her a treat?

Yeah could do go back to basics again.I mean she as been ok a few times when we left like she once got left 3 hours in porch and was fine but we then leave her say 15-20 mins and shes chewed wood off wall, plastic, magazines and almost through electric cables

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Make it a really positive place for her, like her safe haven, put treats in there, toys put her in it with some treats and leave her for 5 minutes, come back and praise her if shes not done anything. And just keep doing it and up the time,

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
If it is separation anxiety you could try this.
Thunder Jacket
I did see the TV vet here use it on a dog that played up whenever the humans went to work.
Cheers

Re: Chewing up and destroying everything!
Again just build it up and I wouldnt insist on a crate that obviously makes her very stressed otherwise she would never poo where she sleeps any gated safe place will do. Make sure she's got enough toys and a comfy bed and I would leave tv/radio on.
