Fussy eater!!
Anyway one else's staffy a fussy eater?
Mine's so bad, sometimes she wont touch her food all day and we change what she eats every couple of weeks.
I just want mine to be a little fatty.. but she won't gain the pounds

Re: Fussy eater!!
Yes mine has been known to be a fussy eater many staffys on here are like that. Sometimes its a case of trying to see if theres any better food on offer.

Re: Fussy eater!!
Nope, mine eats every time!
Has she been checked over at a vet, firstly? Really, you can try different bowls/raw diet/different food etc but first I would choose a food and stick to it, and pick up the bowl after 15 minutes, and then she doesn't get anything else til the next meal time (which will be the same food again). However, I don't feed dry dog food, and wouldn't be happy eating it if I was a dog really! It's like eating dry cereal for every meal! I feed a combination of nature diet and raw. Which foods have you tried?

Exactly what Rachel said.
However, I found that it was the actual food that played its part with Zeus. For the first year/year and a half, he was on dry food and would be extremely picky with it and eat at his own time. The 15 minute rule didn't work and I was forever trying to mix things in and change his food to accomodate - with not much luck.
I then moved him onto raw and he eats all the time, every time, no hesitation whatsoever and he's been eating the same thing for the past year now.

Re: Fussy eater!!
Unfortunately Stan eats his food so fast i don't get a chance to find out. Have you tried putting the meals into a kong or using nice gravy? Sometimes seeing another dog eating can be a stimulant too. Fish paste also is popular as a starter.
Re: Fussy eater!!
I would definitely try it the hard way first. As long as you have a decent brand of dog food, as Rachel said if she doesn't eat after 15 mins take it away. Give it again for dinner and do the same 15 minute rule. They won't starve themselves.
We switched Bane to raw just over a year ago now and he just gets so excited at dinner times, if you leave him waiting longer than 30 seconds he is bouncing off the walls

Re: Fussy eater!!
Funnily enough I came on here to see if others were having trouble with food and it seems to be a current topic. The 15 minute rule just doesn't seem to work with Lily - she can go 3 days before eating. I can't keep giving her the same dinner as not sure of its freshness by that time. She does eventually eat something but its not like she learns a lesson - she can go another 3 days again. This has been going on for nearly 3 years!!!! She showed great interest in a long-dead hedgehog the other day though. Its like having a small child, she even stares at me defiantly as if - like are we playing that game again. I have tried all kinds of food, she will not eat kibble or any kind of mixer in her food so I give her decent wet foods. At the moment she is on Forthglade which is a pound a tray - expensive to be putting in the bin. I picked up a leaflet for Natural Instinct which is ready prepared frozen food and wondered if anyone has used it. As a veggie, I can't quite bring myself to give her carcass type raw. Has anyone tried any other brands of prepared raw food? Thanks for help.

Re: Fussy eater!!
try feeding one hour after a walk with salmon oil drizzled over it. dogs feed best after a good run as it fits with the prey drive model. make it smelly which is why salmon oil works well but anything that pricks attention will do. sardines also work well and you can use tesco 37p tins to start with. if that fails give something to chew on as it gets the gastric juices going leading them to feed

Re: Fussy eater!!
That's what meant about the fish paste, when Stan has it he's licking his lips for ages afterwards and other dogs are attracted too when he goes out again and want to lick his face too. Just out of interest how long have you had her and where did you get her from? They must have fed her something, unless she was a pup of course.
Re: Fussy eater!!
Axl eats everything as soon as it's put down! We reckon if we fed him every 5 minutes he'd just keep eating, no stop button on that one lol.
We feed him nature diet and he absolutely loves it!

Re: Fussy eater!!
Ice was a fussy eater , I was told that if they don't eat with in 1/2 hr of putting it down take it up and put it in the bin , then the next time do the same , a fussy staffy will eat within 24 hours a stubborn staffy will eat within 48 hrs , the key is no tit bits inbertween
It sound a bit harsh but you staffy won't starve It will just get hungry then will eat , I also read that staffy like routine so same time butting the food down then same time taking it up 1/2 hr later ,
It took ice 48 hrs and she loves food time even let's me no when it's dinner time she sits by the kitchen waiting lol bless her
