Help!! Worried... Empty Help!! Worried...

Post by Ajp01e Fri Nov 28 2014, 22:28

hi.. We now have our new member to the family.. Rocco.. I posted a few weeks ago before picking him up about being a little sceptical about his father being large as the owners did not have his papers on them. We saw the mother and father together, and when asked, the breeder confirmed he was 100% staffy and so will my Rocco be. Anyway, we now have him and today he went for his first injections at the vets.. He's so loving and affectionate but does have his nipping mad rushes that were trying to clamp down on... So, after speaking to the vet he asked me if he was a staffy cross?? This made me jump to a thought of again, the father.. Can anyone help me as the vet did seem pretty sure that he is cross and that after looking at the fathers photo he was even more confident. Is this father a pitbull as this is what i first thought.... Or is he crossed with ???? Any info would be much appreciated... Ill upload a photo of rocco also... Thanks all....

Hi, unless you have papers you can never be sure they are full staffy, our vet told us Gordon may be crossed with a boxer!!, we have also been told by people he could be crossed with a pit bull. You have a beautiful pup and he looks as though he's made himself at home Smile Just make sure you socialize him well and are consistent with training and you will reap the rewards.x

Pup is beautiful. Dad looks to me like there could even be bit of mastiff in there - something 'boxy' about the face. So many backstreet breeders that even with a pedigree, it's hard to tell what anyone really has any more. I got my first staffy 30 years ago and at that time, there were very few pit bulls about (they came very soon after) or those 'Irish' leggy 'staffies' - and almost any staff puppy around, even from a backstreet breeder, would be one of the small, squat type. So many 'staffies' now look taller, leggier and have less good heads - I think a lot of non staff has got into the gene pool.

We got our staff in the Black Country where there were staffy breeders (not show people) left, right and centre but you'd have been hard placed to find a tall leggy staff or one with that boxy kind of head.

Our 13 week old is staff/JRT cross and she looks staffy but is smaller probably. What does your's weigh?

People ask me the exact same thing about my staffy, I met the mom and the dad. His just long legged, I think some people jump to conclusions. My maxxy still tries to nip now.

The father is unquestionably a cross IMO, possibly with a mastiff, the breeder was telling porkies.

The heritage is less obvious in the pup though, he's a lovely little chap. Long legs can be a result of mixed breeding but it is also a staffie trait in some dogs. Bo has long legs, he's 16" at the shoulder, but he is a pedigree. It's certainly nothing to bother about, just might cost you a bit more in dog food Big Grin

As long as you look after eachother properly and socialise him as much as you can you shouldn't worry too much. Alot of dogs that people seem to call American Pit Bull Terriers are nothing of the kind, a limited number of genuine APBTs in Britain. As has been mentioned he's possibly got some Bull Mastiff or such in him, i've seen two recently and their faces looked like his but they were fawn in colour. I asked them what they were and they said Staffy/Bull Mastiff X. Obviously larger than the average Staffy but smaller than the Bull Mastiff.

They are both gorgeous! Love Struck Just look at the legs on little Rocco! Could be crossed hare Tongues
I think everyone who has a staffy that doesn't fit the size standards gets asked at least once if they have a pit!
