Urine leakage Empty Urine leakage

Post by adamprinceofeternia Tue Nov 25 2014, 19:22

Hi all.

Kiara has a bit of a problem. The other month we noticed that sometimes after she cam in from playing ball or from a walk she would continue to dribble urine for a short while. Couple of dabs with the towel and that seemed to do it.

The frequency of leakage increased so last week we took Kiara and a urine sample to the vets. It was checked and the vet said that there was no bacterial infection however, she has Struvite crystals in her urine which is why she is leaking sometimes. The vet recommended putting her on to Royal Canin Urinary SO, to dissolve the crystals.

We purchased some of the royal canin and have been gradually switching her over from her old food.

I didn't expect it to work overnight however, her leakage has continued and if anything seems worse. I have noticed that she only leaks after playing ball and walking in the morning and after her walk of an evening. When I go home to let her out at lunch she doesn't leak and the same just before bed.

This is really distressing for us and Kiara and I was very late to work this morning as she didn't stop dribbling urine for ages. I am starting to wonder whether the leaking has got anything to do with the crystals in her urine at all!

I am thinking about taking her to another vets to be honest.

She doesn't appear to be in any pain at all. She seems her normal self but she is obviously conscious that she is leaking as she will sniff or lick at the spot where she has left a damp patch on the carpet.

I would go back to the original vet and ask them to check things out again as they know what's been checked already. If you don't get a satisfactory answer then get a second opinion.

The food should help a bit and have you tried a cranberry supplement?

No we haven't tried cranberry. Vet just told us to use the food. Going to go and speak to another vet on Thursday, see what they say. Cheers

Best of luck. Could be a sign of cystitis which would be an ongoing problem and a tendancy to get UTI's. Suki has the same issue and we get her urine checked once a month or so just to be safe. She had the problem alot for a time but since we started using the cranberry and feeding raw she has been better. Still leaks a bit but not as bad.

Thanks, I will mention the cranberry to the vet. We feed her dry food but have now started to add a bit of water to it too as have been told that it can help.
