Argh! Empty Argh!

Post by Rachel33 Wed Nov 05 2014, 17:30

Forgot how much dark evenings throw Biscuit out Sad I love this time of year but our little madam isn't so keen. I would imagine that it's the combination of random fireworks, walks in the dark, cooler temperatures but she has been a whirling, twirling Tasmanian devil for our past few walks!!!! Staring dogs/people out and refusing to distract/walk on, pulling hard on the lead, hackles up at any noises, darting over to smells and just generally anxious. Walked her for 2 hours and she still tried to drag me all of the way home. Also had diarrhoea all over the living room when I popped to the shop today - not like Bug at all. Feel so sorry for her but it's just so frustrating - 3 years of work and feels like it's all gone out of the window in a week. Sad Sad

It's so disheartening when they go backwards. I'm sure you'll get back on track soon, you don't sound the sort of person not to bounce back!

Does Biscuit wear a coat outside?

Thanks all, we've worked out that it was exactly this time last year that she had a big relapse too. And the year before that she tried to attack a car on bonfire night! She does have a coat Liz, but not sure that it's chilly enough yet! She's really p***ed off. Gone with ouch dinner too die to upset tummy, and can't have the meaty bone from the butchers. She stayed like this for most of the night

Funny you should mention dinner Rachel, my Flo didn't eat till 10 last night so wonder weather something upset her too. She was fine with dinner tonight though so I guess whatever it was us passed now.

Seems like you've discovered a trend with Biscuit, which is good news Smile

Aww poor pup but I'm sure she will bounce back from it. The fireworks surely must play a big part in this.

Aww bless her, such a sweetheart. my two are getting right cheesed of im making them wait an hour longer for the evening walk (in their mind, they dont understand changing the clocks) coupled with the noise of fireworks and changeable weather i can see how it could upset a dog. my friends boy was going mental at everything in the park the other night and he is usually a big placid lump more intrested in sniffing everything than barking at it. hope she feels better and settles soon

Milo's either not eating or just very little his food morning & night at the mo & he's also whirly twirly in the wind. He has a little warm raincoat to pop on when it rains as his own coat his very thin & we've decided not take him for his last evening trip down the green cos of flaming fireworks going off suddenly. He's quite jumpy

Aw Bis. ledger is just constantly anxious at the mo can't help that my bathroom was due to be refit last week but it's been delayed so I have a front room full of bath/tile etc, and I'm not letting him go up to bed as the fireworks are louder and he gets even more upset up there. He is just tense in the day and become a shivering wreck before and during car journeys.

I need to sort it tho as he is in kennels New Years eve as I'm doing a 10km race in Surrey New Years day

Ummmmm strange isn't it how differently they can all react. Rocky would just bark at the fireworks then go to bed. We do spray his bedding with the adaptil though during this time of year. He is eating as normal.

Discovered this morning that Ledger had an accident in the house last night bless him on his paw wipe towel which was on a dog cushion in the front room.

He cowered as I found it, really not like him not to pester if he needs to go out and he has never peed in the house since I rescued him!

I feel your pain, Rachel.

Zeus has been the exact same since the fireworks have started, I took him out one day and a few fireworks went off near us, he jumped forward and ran straight into a fence, head first Sad felt so sorry for him , after that, he pulled me all the way back home, didn't want to respond to me and now just shakes as soon as it gets dark.

I brought him an Adaptil collar (under the advice of my vet) which apparently releases pheromones which a mother releases when she gives birth to her pups, and have got to say, ever since that, his shaking has stopped and he does seem calmer.

However, he still hates the dark so I've changed his evening walk to around 4pm, before it gets dark. I also made him a little den in the living room which is the only place he really feels safe and can fall asleep while the fireworks are still going off. I deliberately put it in the corner of a room, so nothing is behind him and tried to make it den like as much as I could:
