Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
Hi - I've bought one of these from ebay - and does anyone know, when properly fitted, just where the D ring should be along the dog's back? When I put it on Milo it is just over halfway which seems a bit weird as there's no control whatsoever .

That's where ours is too, I just use a double end lead attached to the collar too, I don't find harnesses in general very good for control though.

Yeah same here, i got it cause the normal collar was chocking her when she pulled and to be fair it has helped Iza with pulling. She doesn't need the harness as much these days just for long walks now.

Re: Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
Mmmm - my hubby wants to put her in just a wide collar but I don't want to hurt her neck.

Re: Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
When walking Rocky I only tend to use his collar now and just have his harness on for when travelling in the car.
Rocky has the EzyDog harness, just the regular one which is quite wide anyway but you can get a wider fitting version as in the link below:

I agree when it comes to the majority of harnesses, as they clip between the shoulders which gives a central place for the dog to pull against. We use the Mekuti and have found it effective with all our dogs, including Nola who was incapable of walking with her front feet on the ground when we first got her (stunt kite!).
The lead goes through a ring in front of the chest and then clips on to the opposite side of the dog to the handler. You can use it with a double ended lead and clip onto the central position as well. There are photos and explanations on their website:

Re: Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
Your unlikely to get any control with any harness honestly they are meant for pulling comfort not control.
Collar wise, all collars when being pulled on put pressure on the front center of the neck the esophagus /windpipe the only way to avoid this kind of pressure and damage for a pulling dog is either a high collar, up around the top of the neck where there is nothing to be put under pressure and you get loads of control this way, or a half check collar, the half check collars equal out the pressure to be all around the dogs neck and not on the throat.

Re: Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
We bought Bane the biggest size possible for plenty of growing space and it used to sit right back below his rib cage and almost at his waist but now he has filled out a bit it does fit better.
Like Rachel, we use a double ended lead hooked to the harness and collar as you have no control at all just with the harness.

Re: Trixie Padded Soft Dog Harness
I use a perfect fit harness and a head halti with a double ended lead attached to the halti at one end and the top of the harness at the other end. I find it has helped stop Densil pulling and also gives me better control if he sees a cat
