Other dogs on leads
Harrie for some reason goes all weird when she is off lead and spots another dog on lead she jumps around it barking and darting in and out in a high excitement state I cant catch her and she will follow the person and dog, this doesn't happen if she is on lead or the other dog is off lead there is one specific french bull pup that she likes to target and she will spot them coming a mile away.
Has anyone had the same same problem? do you think its just a puppy thing and she will grow out of it?
Its not a big problem but it has freaked a few people out they think shes going to attach their dog.
Cheers

Re: Other dogs on leads
You should not allow her to do this; if another dog is on lead it could be for a very good reason such as aggression. Put her on the lead whenever you see another dog on lead.

My puppy runs over but she rolls over, I understand sometimes you cant get your dog on the lead in time, they do tend to grow out of it though, just try recalling her try squeaky toys and treats :-)

Re: Other dogs on leads
The "weird" you describe is just excitement I'd agree with the above statements and urge you to be responsible and put Harrie on a lead when you see other dogs approaching on a lead. It may well be aggression but it could also be fear aggression or just plain fear. Harrie approaching a dog who has fear aggression or is fearful of other dogs and in training could set back the other dog's training. I know from personal experience how frustrating it can be if you get your dog to a certain stage when working through fear aggression only for another dog to bound up and ruin it all, even if the other dog is friendly Just food for thought!

Re: Other dogs on leads
Cheers guys I do try to spot other dogs on leads and get her on mine when possible but we walk in an off leash area and she roams around with other dogs that are off leash, the squeaker toy thing will work I think I will give that a go.
In my first post I mentioned a specific French Bulldog pup she likes to target while its on the lead well on the weekend she found another FBD that was off lead, she didn't seem to like this dog either wouldn't play with it like she plays with the other dogs she was almost aggressive towards it so I put her on the lead.
Maybe she doesn't like the French.
Cheers

Re: Other dogs on leads
we mixed Lula with other dogs when she was younger but she just not a dog friendly girl, loves people and is very friendly and loves being made a fuss of. Yet if we see another dog her hackles go up and she on alert i think its more nerves with her. Lula seems better with some dogs than others. we don`t allow her off lead because her recall is poor.
