Pedro's biggest problem - Naughty Pedro
Hi Guys
Has anyone experienced this and have any tips to deal with it please?
I have taken a video of what Ped does - it's not very long but we have taken to picking him up and putting him in the kitchen every time he does it (he goes mad if we grab his collar when he's doing it) so that it doesn't keep going on and on.
It's really annoying and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it - he's been lay on the sofa with me all day and been asleep most of the time until now, but sometimes when he gets on the sofa he just does this! He is generally good and waits to be invited onto the sofa and he never goes on it when we're not there. Usually after a 10 minute time out in another room he comes back in and settles down.
Okay so he looks really mean and it does hurt but I'm pretty sure it's not him being aggressive as such, just playful/dominant? Maybe I'm being naive but if he really wanted to bite us he could - it hurts mainly as his teeth are sharp not that he's applying loads of pressure. Is this just mouthing? I'm not sure tbh I just know its really annoying - we've tried saying no and it doesn't work, tried stones in a tin which seemed to work for a day and then had no affect after that so just wondering if anyone has any ideas. He is big and strong so when he gets really into it it can be hard to get him off!
We are going to get a behaviorist in I think but as they are expensive, just wondered if anyone had any ideas first.

someone told me to put stones in a tin and then shake it by him so the noise shocks him then he would stop - but it only worked for a day lol

A single firm no or high pitched yelp it hurts he needs to know that! when he does it then get up leave the room and ignore him.
It does look like he is enjoying the play/wrestle so by just leaving him he will quickly learn that his actions don't get the attention that he wants.

Yeah we tried yelping but that only worked for a short time. So you think us leaving the room is better than removing him? Will try that next time. Thanks

It looks like he might be trying to be playful? Have you tried redirecting him into either a training session or game when he starts this rather than all the aversive techniques that don't seem to be working? Not dominance.

Only in that if you go it stops the attention if you are trying to move him he still has chance to keep doing this until you get him in the other room
Just stay away long enough that he calms down then go back in and redirect him with some positive attention teach tricks and give treats etc

Re: Pedro's biggest problem - Naughty Pedro
I would just get up straight away and walk away. Don't say anything to him and just go do something else in another room for a few minutes and return when you think he is calm. Or if you have a toy handy, try putting that in his mouth to see if he will continue to play with the toy instead.
In the video you say no but let him continue to mouth your arm, so he is only learning that no means he can carry on.
Although annoying I can imagine he does make some cute/funny noses

Re: Pedro's biggest problem - Naughty Pedro
Thanks for the advice. Cute isn't the words I would use to describe them lol its his high pitched attention seeking bark which we have managed to stop him using at other times lol. He used to do something similar when we were outside and he would jump up snapping at our arms and bark like that. We did seem to stop that by either giving him a stick or his bone to grab instead or by walking off - I guess it's the same thing, don't know why I didn't think of doing the same things lol. We dont tend to have toys around the house for him as he either rips them up or if its his ball, chews them against our leg which is really annoying - he had an indestructible rubber bone too which we had to stop him having as it just used to rile him up and make him hyper! He gets his proper bone and a ball when we go out, he just too much of a nause with them in the house when we're about!. it really bugs me as like I say he's been so good all day today sleeping on the sofa (well on me!) This is what he looked like most of the day lol
