Staffy care Empty Staffy care

Post by AussieStaff Sun Sep 21 2014, 09:23

I wish all staffy's were treated as we here (on the forum) treat ours. I know an adult Staffy who is outside all day & all night, never walked (& I mean never), not played with, whines/barks for attention and is left to suffer in the cold overnight Winter temps we experienced. I can't say much for obvious reasons but it irks us big time, espesh when our boy is inside from the minute we are home, fed a very good diet, walked morning & night without fail, given new toys/treats regularly & the luxury of sleeping on our bed. Makes me so sad to hear how he is treated espesh as they are home all day !!! at wits end

It's hideous. Saw a lot of this and think about it all of the time. Especially when we are aware of how sensitive they can be, and how desperate for human company. Heartbreaking.

Staffy care Empty Re: Staffy care

Post by AussieStaff Sun Sep 21 2014, 11:07

What makes me super sad is that this poor dog is suffering, could be in a much more loving environment (understatement), would give his whole heart to his new owners (or even current ones if they actually took the time to interact with him!!!) and I could 99% guess they have him purely because he's a "tough dog" and it's all about the image. I researched the life out of Staffy's before buying one and I am every single day astounded how much love he gives me and wants/needs in return, the Staffy hearts are HUGE !!! They make me so angry !!!! I don't see them leaving their toddler in those conditions !!!!

So sad and that's just the unloved ones not the abused or killed by BSL.
There is a staffy x in my st. That didn't grow up to be a good looking dog so her owner that we had to stop him from kicking! Her months ago when she barked manically at peppa. Anyway I haven't seen her for months although I offered her owner help with taking her out. I thought he got rid of her and the other night I took peppa out very late and there she was looking at us behind a curtain looking so sad.dont know what to do about it as clearly she is never outside this flat. For months and months!!

Those type of people are weak-minded, pathetic excuses for human beings. It's a good job they don't live next to me because I'd take their dog and ask what they were doing to do about it. Answer: nothing.

I treat Bo how I think I'd want to be treated if I were a dog. Comfy beds all over the house, five miles of walks every day over the fells and in the woods, the best food, lots of play and person / dog interaction, minimal time left alone. He doesn't get shouted at or smacked because that's just cruel, dogs never do anything out of malice so there's never any need to show anger towards them (aside from a very sharp command when he picks up broken glass or stones but that's for his own good!) I'm sure people look at me and think I'm a typical staffy owner with a status dog (tats, bodybuilder, shaved head) but that's their problem. Everyone who knows me or my dog knows different.

That's really awful, why have a dog and not care for it. My dogs mean the world to me and its heart breaking to see other dogs getting treated poorly. Far to many nasty people in this world

Dogs/Staffys are like kids the more you put in the more you get back Harrie is walked twice a day does obedience training and plays in the dog park and people approach us all the time to comment on how well behaved she is.

I see some people on nice days trying to walk their dog and its evident that the poor thing hasn't been out in weeks its pulling at the lead they know if they let it go it will not come back. One such couple with 2 staffys commented on how its rare to see a well behaved staffy and even said I suppose you walk her every day 'Yep twice a day" then they walked off.

Cheers

Agree with all comments except "I see some people on nice days trying to walk their dog and its evident that the poor thing hasn't been out in weeks its pulling at the lead...", my 11 mth old is horrendous at pulling when he is walked and we walk him twice a day at least 30 minutes each time. I actually feel a little sad that you think based on the way he walks it means we don't walk him, I hope others don't see it that way when we are out walking ! Sad

Maybe im not clear in what I meant I didn't say every dog that pulls doesn't get walked, maybe it doesn't happen in your area but certainly around us once the weather fines up there is a sudden influx of people in the park desperately trying to control their dogs that may have been in the back yard all winter.

Im sorry to make you feel sad it wasn't meant as a personnel attack and as I said I do talk to people while on the walk and some even say we don't walk on a regular basis.

Cheers
