Eating poo
My staffy is constantly eating poo, cat, fox, dog whatever she can get. Its driving me mad as i feel i can't let her off the lead because the first thing she does is seek out poo. When she does it she will look at me then run whilst eating it. I don't know why?, She has complete biscuits in the day and tripe with pasta for tea plus other treats (not everyday) so she's not hungry. At home she has also started pushing our other dog out the way so she can have his dinner, so we have had to feed them separately now, as we can't watch them all the time. She weighs 27kg and vet said she is border line overweight. she has also been wormed regularly PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Eating poo
Its our local pet shops biscuits for working dogs as it was recommended by customers who use it and natures menu tripe. She only ever used to have tripe but now give her biscuits because our other dog has them as he's bigger. Mean't to have said this only started a couple of weeks ago :-)

Re: Eating poo
That's brilliant, thank you. A couple of things stick out so will try the different techniques to see if they work :-)

Re: Eating poo
Could be that she is not getting enough protein from her food or she like things that stink. Have you mentioned this issue to the vet ? Our recommended list of foods in the link below. Do you know the protein content of the food she is currently on ?:

Re: Eating poo
My girl LOVES eating cat poo. We walk on Dartmoor a lot which is covered in livestock (and their poo!) and it's a nightmare. Bis has a very strong leave command, but if she can sneakily eat it she will. It's a natural behaviour for them, but obviously to us it's a bit gross, and there's concern due to parasites etc.
I'd just use the leave command personally, Bis even ate it when she was raw fed, so diet isn't always to blame, though it can sometimes be a major cause.

Re: Eating poo
Zeus used to be terrible when he was a pup, as soon as it'd come out the other end, he'd turn around and start eating it!
We tried everything in the book.. pineapple chunks/juice (which apparantly makes the poo smell/taste horrible when it comes out).. tablets from PAH which were meant to stop it.. charcoal biscuits.. you name it!
In the end, it turned out that the food he was on at the time (Royal Canin) wasn't sitting right with him.. he wasn't digesting it properly so it came out still smelling like food. After a year or so of trial and error, and trying to work around his Colitis (which he got diagnosed with at a young age).. we've now got him on raw and he doesn't even look at his poo anymore.
A firm, strong "NO!" always helps too.

That's what everyone said to me at the time, but no way of really proving that unless you go get some expensive tests from the vets. I'd say there's other avenues to follow before going down that route.

Until we started feeding a good quality raw food I didn't realise the difference. Not only does the poo smell much less rancid, it is less in size and is quite often pale to white. We not only feed raw from a company but we also regularly DIY with cheap Tesco chicken wings or sometimes they will have a carcass that is normally £8 that they are selling for 11 pence as the use by date is tomorrow. The dogs certainly don't complain.
With all the 'other stuff' that is added to kibble, I often wonder just how much of the protein they claim is in their food actually makes it into our pets.
Even our vet now recommends a raw diet and expects never to see us back with Bob as a result !!
