Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
Well, Roxy is now 6 months old and is booked in to the vets for sterilisation next Thursday.
It' gonna be a long day for me, waiting to bring my girl home again. She is generally "full of energy" so i'm hoping she stays relatively calm while she gets over the op.
If you have a female who has had the op, how have they coped after the op while recovering?????

haha that thought DID cross my mind Lisa!
The last op that Jethro had ( compacted salivary glands ) he stayed over night at the vets.. I sat at home all night, looking at his empty basket next to our bed.. and cried!! I am useless!!
Be a big brave girl for Roxy, mummy!!

Re: Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
Both my girls have been fine. Simple things like not jumping up onto the sofa and not using the stairs where hard, but it was almost as if she new there was a reason why. Roxy will be fine, as will you be. The ops come along way since mine where done, she had to have her stitches out a week ish later, but there was someone on here that had dissolvable stitches. Honestly its a very straight forward op

Darling girl, I'll be here if you need me ><
I'm sure she will be fine and yes you will clock watch all day long till you can go and get her
Post op care may be similar to Izzy's last year, she was still a little sleepy from the anesthetic and we made sure she had plenty of water if she needed it, from memory the vet suggested only a small meal that night if she seemed hungry.
Unfortunately or maybe fortunately Kita ended up having an op the same day for a lump on her cheek that appeared almost overnight, so we had both of them under the weather at the same time. Kita was worse as she had to wear an Elizabethan collar (we took it off after a few hours as her failing sight was making it harder for her). Meanwhile Izzy just breezed through her post op evening and night and was her normal self the next day. She had a dissolveable suture and we took her back the following week for her check up and that was that.
Now Kita's was done a long time ago and that was pretty straight forward, except she had one continuous stitch that had to be removed a week later. Surgery and the first night went very smooth, but the old girl was a bit of a ratbag at the time and did everything her way not what anyone else wanted her to do. Both times I took a few days off (more for me than them I think)

was along time ago for me with Tessa and as said above surgery has come a long way since then however she was absolutely fine. back same day and just curled up on the sofa with her mama having lots of cuddles. hers was more in-depthsurgery too because of the scar tissue from previous caesareans but she was absolutely fine. you cant help but worry but she will be fine xx

Had my holly done I dropped her off in the morning at 9 and was told to pick her up at 5 but got a phone call at 3 to come for her she hadnt stopped whining and they all had headache and the morning appointments thought there was a dog being strangled in the kennels.
She was fine a little bit drowsey and sore but right as rain a couple of weeks later

Re: Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
The only bitch I ever had spayed was done as an emergency for pyometra. The vet phoned 4 hours after the op & said come and get her. When I got there, they told me that she had spent all the time she'd been awake screaching at the top of her voice!
I got her home, she had a long drink & then went to sleep till the following morning!
It wasn't easy keeping her quiet, but it wasn't for too long.

Thanx everybody for your well wishes ( Yep, i'm sure she'll be fine too ) and stories of how your dogs behaved post-op.
And can I also say that this forum has been such a help since I bought Roxy home, with loads of info to read / browse.... also reading others topics and gaining so much info from them too. But to top it all off, everybody is soooooo friendly and supportive ( I feel like I have a whole new circle of friends here ) Thanx peeps ><

Re: Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
With Cairo the hardest part was keeping her still. But when i brought her home from the operation, she slept non stop, when she was awake she made the most heart breaking wimpering noise .It only lasted a couple of hours though thankfully.By the next day she was wondering about, banging into walls with her lamp shade collar on her head lol

Re: Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
Awww bless her am sure she will be fine. I know Ty is male but I was in pieces dropping him off for his op. I was the same dropped him at 9am and he was home with me by 3 feeling really sorry for himself and making me feel even worse. He slept for a few hours after his op then was back to normal bouncing around, trying to keep a staffy calm sounds a lot easier than it actually is lol he was up on the couch up and down the stairs and all sorts but he did really struggle getting comfy to sleep he slept with his bum in the air for a while lol.
Good luck Roxy hugs from me and licks from Ty and a big good luck to your mummy she will be fine.

Hope Roxy does'nt need the "cone of shame" but knowing my luck she'll lick the wound too much and up with one on.....oh well, what will be will be.

getting spayed tomorrow
My skye is getting spayed tomorrow and I have just been reading all these comments, so am just hoping she is going to be ok. I am worried about her pulling out her stitches and any complications with them.
Don't know whether to put her a cone on straight away or wait and see if she bothers with the stitches first??

Re: Roxy's sterilisation : UPDATED
She'll be fine, I'm sure! Most vets will put the lampshade on them automatically, and it's up to you whether you take it off or not. It's the night time that can be a problem, when you're not around to stop them scratching or licking.
See how she goes & maybe just put the cone on at night.

Skye will be fine too, Moo never wore a lamp shade she left her stitches well alone and they had to be in for 10 days. Thinking of you all tomorrow, I know its hard but Roxy and Skye will be fine

Roxy is home.....and very sleepy.
Everything went well but she just looks so sleepy and sad
As soon as we got home she went straight to the back door and out for a wee.....little dear
She's now snuggled up on her bed resting with her new ( second-hand ) flannelette sheets I found in the op-shop. Not bad for $1each

Great news Lisa! You must be relieved she is home safe and sound. Moo sends lots of licks and I send a glass of vino cause you'll probably need it after today! Good luck with the after care, and enjoy the peace whilst it lasts, it doesn't last long

Skye is back home!!
Skye is home, she too went out back for a wee as soon as she came in bless them staffy's are such clean dogs!
She is very tired and has been sick a bit just froth! She is laid snuggled up in her fleece blancket in her new soft doughnut bed I bought for her this afternoon for her to recover in as her normal bean bag would mean her jumping up to it! She has been giving the odd wimper and I feel real sorry for her
[b]Thanks to everyone for asking how she is!! x
