what scary you the most while out with your dogs?
me is lose big dogs without owns and i feel it only a matter of time there so many around and there but some very close calls......
Re: what scary you the most while out with your dogs?
Nothing phases my boy in other dogs, he will stare down rotties and gsd or just ignore them, cock his tail point his ass i there direction and then walk off. what scares me most though is that he decides when to listen... 99.5 % of the time he will be hot on commands but the remaining .5% he will be gone for hours chasing anything with a pulse.

The only thing that worries/bothers me is loose dogs that bother my girl and don't leave her alone. She will snap and I worry that one day I won't be in a position to stop something nasty. She's fine if the come and say hi but if they keep pestering her I'm not so sure.

I don't mind off lead dogs as long as they have good recall.

For us its bicycles. The paths and roads are narrow and they dont pay attention to where they are going

Re: what scary you the most while out with your dogs?
nothing in the way of dogs because she will only go up to dogs if i say she can, and if they come over she will sniff them and then follow me, i worry about her getting lost lol because she follows my other dog sometimes into the wooded area if we walk there and hes older so he comes back, but he tends to come back a different way than they way he came in so he ends up coming back without her lol, i think he does it on purpose trys to loose her!

Also off-lead dogs with owners miles away not even watching them.

don't see many dogs without owners where i live so i don't have that problem but i have had so much grief from idiots who won't put their dogs on the lead when we approach them that i've stopped worrying about other peoples dogs. tessa is a very confident dog and although she is very friendly to dogs who come up to her quietly and calmly she won't tollerate those that come running at her barking and growling. i'm sick of hearing "don't worry mate he won't hurt her he's friendly he only wants to play" whilst their dog is dancing around growling and snapping at tessa.

My constant worry is a dog attacking Toots.
She loves all dogs and has a brilliant temperament but if she was attacked it might make her fearful.
If I see a dog in the distance I put her on the lead til I find out if the other dog is friendly.

Katy freaked out the other morning cos someone left a sack in the road, cars parked in our lane where they don't normally, a man standing under a tree sheltering from the rain But start up a chainsaw or any other power tool & she wont bat an eyelidSazzle wrote:Random bins, phone boxes, bus shelters, theyre very scary you know! Re: what scary you the most while out with your dogs?
Ped was terrified by an abandoned traffic cone today - he saw it and started cowering behind me, so I tried to walk up to it and he dug his paws firmly in the ground! I dragged him over and he had a good sniff and then he was fine lol.
I am worried about another dog picking a fight with Ped. He's fine with other dogs and lets them have a sniff and has even made some playmates, but I think if a dog started on him then he would fight back and probably win - which could get us in a lot of trouble!

In this situation, winning means losing. Completely agree, this is the nightmare scenario.

He's as calm as anything with other dogs really, just wants to play but I dont think he'd let another dog take a chunk out of him and get away with it! same with us as humans I guess

Re: what scary you the most while out with your dogs?
Madge is fine with all the big dogs. At puppy classes, the trainer had a wolf cross (yes) that used to join in the training classes and she soon learned how to behave with him - like throw yourself onto your back in front of him then get up and play. So I think she developed a confidence from this with the big dogs. Mostly she's ok with the smalls - but occasionally the hackles start up and as soon as I spot this, I call her off and she's never disobeyed. If we see another dog on the lead, I always pop hers on - I think it's just good manners.
